Anyone else playing the BF2142 demo? - Click HERE for Original Thread

Orzel_pl
Its pretty snazzy stuff. Kinda reminds me of Planetside.

Orzel_pl
Well EA can go fuck themselves. The game comes prepackaged with Spyware inside.

BF2142 is a no go for me, simple and easy, im not going to condone this kind of BS.

LOL Talk about bullshit. So, not only are we expected to pay the same price for this game as most others our there, but EA is then turning around making at least as much as we paid off of ad companies for our data. Maybe if the game was free, I'd understand, but that's not on.

McFly
I consider you weird if you buy software now a days:)

Orzel_pl
Here's of picture I found at the official EA forums, Im really hoping this is all just blown out of proportion and EA comes up with some response. My take on it is its 50% bullshit and ppl just blew it way out of proportion, and its 50% eerily plausible for a company to do this.

The in game advertising has been talked about for quite awhile now. Doom 3 was originally supposed to incorporate it. It would have things like pop machines, billboards and so forth in a game contain real world advertising. It is not spyware, no data is being taken from your computer. It's not stealing you passwords and porn files. A lot of people today spend almost as much time online playing computer games as they do real world activities. Why not advertise in this fictional reality? I don't see you complaining about billboards on the yellowhead.

Stupid Yellowhead Billboards :D

But ya, I just dont need this "Advertising Software" checking offline stuff, b.c well, thats my own business. Im gonna wait a little bit to just see what EA says to all the hub bub, its prolly all just overblown, but ya.

Except that EA IS mining data. Did you read the enclosure? If the advertising companies followed me around to see which stores I went into, what I did in my spare time, what was in my fridge, what brand of tampons my gf used, etc, so they could specifically target ads on the yellowhead at me, I would complain. There's a big difference between product placement and invasion of privacy.

If Coke wants to pay $5million to have a Coke machine in the game, that's Coke's problem. Still pisses me off I pay $80 for it (if I bought games, which I don't because it seems to me product placement is making enough money they don't need mine), but whatever. If they want to install something on my computer that records who I am and what I look at while I'm relaxing, they can go lick my fat, hairy balls. In essence, they are not only making money on their ads, but also on selling MY private information.

Now if you don't mind, go for it, buy the game and support their bullshit. I don't care. But forced data mining is not something I'm going to condone at all.

JeepGirl
a couple of my clanmates pre-ordered it, they are young and they didnt know any better, they installed the game and said it sucked pretty hard.

now we are all back playing bf2.

EA games will never get another dollar from us (unless they produce Crysis). data mining, shoddy code, terrible patches.

my husband and i have already given them a few hundred bux (for 2 copies each of bf2/SF/AF/EF/ranked server payments/etc) i will be damned if i am going to give them anymore, especially seeing as they are blatantly double-dipping (charging $50 for the game as well as making large from IGA)

FYI: any and all wanting a bf2 server to play on, our clans ranked server ip addy is 8.9.11.154:16567

we play Jalalabad/Karkand/Oman/Wake

Link to my current BF2 stats

we usually get the server rolling in the evenings but you are more then welcome to get a game going on ours anytime.

Do you use debit or credit cards? How about store discount cards?

JeepGirl
i refuse to use store discount cards because they do infact record your personal data when you fill out the form and they do store it on a server to be parsed and the information added to their marketing scema. and debit cards are a fact of life. in fact, i can sit my debit card directly ontop of my internet connected computer and i never have to worry about it sending out personal data to servers that i have know idea how secure they are.

trying to compare IGA and data mining to using your debit card to pay for a purchase is pointless, they are two different things.

:P Me and my wife have solutions for this.

She has 4 gaming machines, 1 that she surfs on, her 3rd slowest machine, and the main machine, is a clean box, no browsing is done on it, nothing to mine for, cept for what other games she plays.

Same with me, I have my "work local account" and my "test" local acount, the test local account is locked out from my "work account" so to get any information the IGA software would have to hack my computer, and that would be a whole different can of worms for EA.

I just bought 2 copies, one for me, one for my wife, we haven't installed them yet. Paid $50/copy, she's been playing the beta, looks decent enough to play, and I don't play games very often.

I have store discount cards, but they never got my info... every time I go to esso and use my card my recipt has big bold writing "Get customer to update card information" of something like that, same with my safeway/save-on/petro/part source/etc cards.

Ok I think my part source has info thats soooo old that it doesn't matter.

JeepGirl
lol, the last time i had one of those customer cards was when they first came out and even then i used yaright@upyours.com

you should add me to your tracker list and follow me into a game, both you and your wife are more than welcome on our ranked server

my user name is: Harley_Quinn_Sniper

see you on the battlefield!

Orzel_pl
I emailed EA asking wtf mate, and they responded with what I figured. Its just in game ads not so much spyware. They arent turned on yet so nothing is annoying yet, but I guess we will see. I still dont like the idea of being distracted by a huge nike commercial when Im trying to zone into the game, but I picked the game up and its fucking dope.

My wife actually runs a BF2 server too, mind you she's almost never on it, same with a CS server. She's got her own clan, I think at one point between all the games they had about 150members. Dunno if hers is ranked though. Not even sure if I have BF2 installed on my laptop(might from frag)

JeepGirl
very kewl, my hubby and i have our own clan as well, just a small group of friendly people.

we even have a small guild wars guild, i dont play the game myself (couldnt pay me enough money to play it or WoW) but one of our clan members son's has a guild and they have their our channels on our teamspeak server.

i only play bf2, NFSU2, simcitysomethingorother, etc.

got a question for you, do you and your wife have seprate gaming rooms?

we do:lol: we dont have a room big enough for both of us right now:( not till we renovate.

to wild knowing about another female BF2 clan leader, in my own province no less!

I once saw a girl playing Metal Slug, I made sure I didnt startle her while I was hiding behind the plastic plant, I didnt want to disturb her in the wild. It was truly a sight to see.

Do ya go to frag? If you went on 05 do you remember the person who crashed the irc server? That was my wife. This year we had a banner flying high.

Her clan plays: CS, WOW, DAOC, Star wars galaxies(Ithink thats the name), WOW, BF2, the new Bf, Guild wars, Diablo 2, Final fantasy XI...

My wife also uses a Ventrilio sever, and when she runs with certain other people team speak. She's being an addict right now and playing 6 games on 4 computers.. doing a DAOC raid or quest or something....

I only play 18 wheels of something(it's when I'm really bored), NFS most wanted, occationally street legal racing(it's a joke), then really once in a blue moon CS, and BF2, prolly same way witht he new BF, once in a blue moon.
