There is no such thing as a simple bar fight, or any fight for that matter past grade school.

I'm curious if he did anything to deserve having his nose bit off. Let's face it, there are very few "innocent victims" in bar fights. Or any other kind of fight for that matter.

There's very little to justify a bar fight in the first place.

Self-Defense is the only one I can think of ?

Way too many idiots out there thinking they are the next UFC champ.

when i was in high school, someone got their nose ripped off in a fight/brawl... well after a fight.

the guy was walking away from the fight/brawl and someone came up behind him and grabed his nose and pulled it up and detatched the majority of it from his face. im sure it didnt feel to pleasent, i couldnt not imagine the paid of either... :)

I've been to many bars many times, never once have I had to defend myself....

There are some common themes to barfights that I have seen. Some people and/or groups go out looking for scraps, and if they find a target that they think they can take, they will find an excuse to start a fight(pool, anyone?). When one of these problem character/s focuses on someone, there is little that someone can do to disuade them.

If you are sober and present a major challenge to them, they will usually give you a pass. If you go out in a group, stay away from the pool table or leave at a reasonable hour, you cut down on opportunities as well. After midnight in the bar, things rarely change for the good. I found my size didn't hurt either, as I didn't get challenged too often.

I'm a skinny guy with glasses... heheh I never get hassled. Seems to be mostly guys who try to look and act tough that get the worst of it.

Exactly my point. The only guys I know who ever got in fights at the bar did something.

Elbowed the wrong guy, made a comment about the dirty looks, etc.

I'd go to bars wearing my military t-shirts, which everyone swore would get my ass kicked. "CFB Wainwright", "PPCLI Battle School", "ARMY", whatever. I had no problems. My army buddies who wore them and made smart ass comments, or shoved a guy, or did something else, were always fighting for their lives.

I really don't believe "innocent" people end up in fights. Everyone I've known who's ended up in a fight, my friends included, had done something.

I think for the most part, you're correct.

I have never been hassled, or seen anyone hassled, who didn't contribute to the situation. I've walked around all areas of this town (118th ave, Abbotsfield, Stadium, etc...) in the middle of the night, and all of the groups of people I've passed have been nothing but nice to me.

I mean, there are going to be truly innocent people that get hurt. But my definition of innocent isn't Joe Blow who hangs out with a group of gangsters, then gets his ass kicked by another gang.

I play pool from time to time, I have yet to get into a bar fight, then again I am not the smallest guy in the bar either.

I'm not huge, but I prefer to do my ass-whupping on the pool table.

I've never had a problem at the bar, and I'm pretty sure I'm an obnoxious drunk. Just don't be an idiot, and you'll be fine.
