Some new Corvette/Viper/Firepower info - Click HERE for Original Thread

Sounds like the 650hp Corvette is a go:

quote:
While the hood scoop indicates this is something other than an ordinary Z06, the real prize is under the hood where our spies heard the whine of what is most likely a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 pushing as much as 650 hp. The engine, which will be hand-built at a rate of 1500-2000 per year at the General Motors Performance Center outside Detroit, features an integrated intake manifold intercooler similar to the one GM developed for the Cadillac STS V-Series.

Also, more info has been coming up on the 2008 Viper, it'll have somewhere between 600-700hp through a bigger 8.4L version of the current V-10. It may have variable valve timing. Spy shots show a 2008 Dodge Viper with changes to the intake manifold, airbox, and radiator; the valve covers are different (much larger) and it appears that the fuel rail is larger in diameter. There appear to be dual throttle bodies, as well. “The 2008 Dodge Viper is solid - much faster and sleeker, while still keeping the twin hump in top (on coupe models) but with a whole new front end that’s sharper and more menacing.” A 2006 test mule with the new engine was spotted:

And the Chrysler Firepower has apprarently just been approved as well, it'll have between 400-500hp with the V8 and weigh less than the Viper. It is aimed at the Grand Touring crowd.

i love the firepower the outside looks hot, i would love to buy this although i think the Dodge Razor would have been better

Wow that firepower is an amazing looking car, it reminds me alot of the body styling of the 240z, a REALLY REALLY good thing!

That's before it gets the GM production treatment. The interior will be replaced with $50 in plastic and all those nice sharp lines on the body will be rounded out and blurred.

Can't argue with those performance numbers though.

Chrysler, Mike. :D

Their plastic costs $75, easy.

and the firepower is an auto:confused:

with no manual shift option:wtf: :loco:

That Firepower is just a test mule and only has the 6.1L / A580 auto. The tranny in the production Firepower is supposed to be a new 6 speed auto, and there are rumors of a 6 speed manual. The production engine will likely be the larger version of the 6.1L, the new 6.6L that makes right around 500hp and 500+tq. The downside is its going to be far more expensive than a Crossfire :(

Dodge hit it on the head with the ME412, i dont know why they did not build that, wait i do, it beat the pants off anthing Mercadies built. Also the srt 10 viper engine was given to Marcides to rework, this is what they came up with.

The firepower looks like a rip off of the Aston Martin Vanquish:dunno: which is why the firepower looks good.

I'd liek the title of Sting Ray for this iteration of the Corvette. The Firepower looks good. A really updated V10 is needed for the Viper and I'm glad they have Daimler for that.

Godzilla
i thought the new "ss corvette" was going to be called the blue devil or somethign like that

because you can get away with older, less advanced technology with that much displacement...

The upside is, that engine will have 2x the torque of the 6L engine from the enzo and have similar if not better hp numbers.

but will it have the same weight savings and quality as the enzo?

what i dont understand is the 2 companies are failing miserably, shutting down plants left right and center and they are making higher horsepower machines that eat up more gas then people can dream of.

Dont get me wrong i like them but the companies that are doing well aren't building these cars, I think if they keep it to small numbers they will be set, and Yeah i love how it takes a huge engine to produce the power that the Europeans make with less. Whatever means you can tune a bit more out of it when you buy it

You don't need it, but it sure helps. Just think of the torque from 1000rpm.

I agree, that should put some of the r&d money into making the caliber the car is should have been, not what is it. I mean, there's lots of room for improvement in that car. Lets just hope they get the srt version right

THUD
I like the vette with a supercharger on it makes it even more of a kick ass car but the firepower looks good but I wanna see it dressed for a race and the interior is a bit to fugly for me and It's better than that POS crossfire they had out.
It does seem weird that they develop cars like this when there car manufacturing plants are getting shut down allover but it's simple how they can do this.
Think of each type of car or series as a separate business and if it's showing good profits from it's numbers then they keep doing it.
Atleast there building cars we like and not just a better mini van.
