Thats awesome. Why spend all of that money on a turbo when you can go to crappy tire and buy a leaf blower for a fraction of the cost.

 That's awesome. I was just thinking about this today during Econ. Except more along the lines of a high-powered shop vac.

There's proof why you don't leave your car sitting at the dyno shop unattended.
"Uhh, it just went lean all of a sudden when we were making pulls man, burnt up 3 pistons... you know these new Civics will just do that out of the blue" |

I actually did this with a 1200 watt leaf-blower and a festiva. I ran the blower on a power inverter and drove around with the blower duct-taped to the intake of the MAF. It actually seemed like it was making a bit more power, but the alternator soon sucked it all back out. aparently it takes some effort for an alternator to keep up with a 1200 watt draw(100 Amps DC, not factoring the efficiency of the inverter)
besides that, the leaf blower really makes a turbo howl on the bench.
that's all I have to say about leaf blowers.
oh... and REPOST!! |

A leaf blower is just a simple, low-end centrifugal compressor. How about a 5 to 10 HP industrial blower, belt driven from the driveshaft, putting out about 4 PSI - low enough that an intercooler wouldn't realy be necessary. Should produce about a 30% increase in power at the top end, may be within the limits of the existing injectors, and may not even require any programming changes (just an increase in fuel octane).
The only problem is finding cheap air assemblies from small industrial blowers. |
