jberger
i have been looking at getting a chip for my truck (superchip and others )
any opinion out there on what is the best chip

If it's Gasoline powered, Don't waste your money.

If it's Diesel, then there are a ton of good ones that can make crazy power.

jberger
yeah its a 06 dodge 1ton diesel

Godzilla
im not sure on the best out there but i've been told to stay away from edge.

Edge are good programmers, the edge EZ is around 60 HP and is safe without running gauges. If you go with the edge Juice, make sure you get the attitude monitor.

Bully Dog is good as well, just don't leave it on the Crazy larry setting for too long otherwise you will be spitting out tranny parts (if you have an auto) or clutches (if you have the 6 speed)

I have heard good things about the superchips as well.

Check out www.dodgetalk.com for some good diesel info

My truck dropped 4.5 tenths at the track from the Superchips Flashpaq and its a gasser, all 5.7Ls will do that from 04+ :read:

For your diesel, like MWD said the Edge is a great choice. Same with Bullydog, but on a side note they don't come with the Crazy Larry setting, you have to download it. Its regular highest is the Extreme and that one is fairly safe if you've got gauges and don't bag the tranny. From everything I've read, Edge EZ and Bully Dog Triple Dog are the best user friendly chips and both offer nice gains.

My old man went with Bullydog because it allows you to modify lots of other stuff IF you have an 06 Ram. He has it set so that you can turn your daytime running lights off altogether, or leave just the orange markers, or run the fogs with or without the highbeams. The Fogs+Highbeams is awesome at night. You can also set it so you can use a high idle with the cruise control and turned off the seatbelt warning. Theres more features that I forget, but most are only available for the 2006 Cummins.

I think Godzilla meant to say stay away from Banks. They have a terrible reputation with the online Cummins guys.

Two great Cummins diesel sites:

This link is a good start:

Check out the SCT, lots of Ford guys say it gets rid of most of the death lag in the 6.0Ls. The Xcallibrator has a lot of features and many tuners set up Xcals with their own tune and sell them that way. Your best bet is to do a little research and see what you want.

Oh, and these guys are getting real popular with the 6.0L guys and their Xcal tunes:

go to jb's on the south side and see if they will do a demo of the bully dog chip. they will temp. reprogram the computer for like 6 days or something. after that if you don't buy the programmer you can't get them to redo the demo the factory computer blocks it out. the kit thou is like $2500 but comes with a progammer that sits on your a piller and a bunch of other stuff.

Best single chip on a Dodge is the Predator 2018...130hp i think.
Best stacked combo is the Predator with a PPE Xcelerator. Makes absolutely sick power. Just my opinion.

95IntegraRS
Predator/Edge owns the Superchips tune in terms of power production. This is coming from dyno experience.

Cobra_R
Part of making a diesel powerful is doing it the right way.

Look here.

and read up on Diesels

I think if oyu own diesels you wanna be equally worried about torque numbers.

If you own any vehicle .. not just diesels.

This is true...the Predator is rated at 200 lb/ft. Didn't mention it earlier, but I agree that torque is equally or more important, especially on a diesel truck.

If you are looking for all out HP/TQ numbers from a single unit on a Cummins there's better yet. The TST Powermax CR and Smarty will fuel enough to destroy factory turbos and transmissions if you crank them up too much.

The Edge/Bully Dog/Predator are more basic and still offer impressive gains for someone who just wants an easy plug and play setup. Most Cummins sites say Banks is not worth the $$$ for what you get and they are prone to cause problems.
