Optima / Interstate Battery Dealer? - Click HERE for Original Thread

mik101
Hey guys,
My yellowtop isnt holding that great of a charge and I emailed optima about it. I guess they don't have a dealer list for canada at their support center or some BS... but they said I had to find a dealer around here on my own to take it to and get it tested before they will give me my purchase price back. (I'm not sure if all yellowtops have been discontinued, but the 51R was discontinued 8 months ago so they can't replace it).
I bought it in March, so they said they would give my money back once a dealer confirmed it had issues.

Anyone know a good dealer to goto for this? Or better yet, one that is good to deal with somewhere near St. Albert?
The battery was originally bought in Nova Scotia, so I have no idea who sells them around here.

Thanks!

Look up Interstate Batteries in the Edmonton white pages. They have an outlet in the west end, up on 112ave and 156st I think... somewhere in that vicinity.

STiPWR
I heard Costco sells them too.

Thanks for the help guys, I'll check those out.

I've seen yellows at the wally mart on 40st and 137ave

Doesnt matter if they sell it, you have to go to the interstate dealer. I went through this about 4 months back, the good thing is, they will replace it on the spot for free no questions asked, if they dont have that certain one they will give u the equivalent. They are really good for that sort of thing.

Good. Thanks again for the help guys. Doesn't look like I'm gonna have time to get that done today but there's still 4 months left on my 1 year replacement warranty so I'm not overly concerned. Battery voltage is hanging around 11.5-11.8 but atleast the car still starts.

Edit: Double post.

My Red top is doing that..
My car is barely starting... sounds like it's not going to catch.. just rr......rrr......rr....................rrr........rr....rvroom

My red top says it has a 3yr free replacement... so I'm gonna have to pop by interstate I guess.... I thought it was just a bad loose terminal so I swapped that out today.. and I was in Edmonton on the west side yesterday too.. grrr

How did your exchange go?

Thanks

Interstate has had my battery since July 25.. they said they'd call me within a week to let me know whats up.. I called them after two..

They said it was fine and just needed to be hooked in paralle with another normal batt(not a spirel cell)battery to charge.. so I asked if my dad could pick it up cause their hours are bank hours with no saturday service and I live 100miles north of the city and work when they're open. The said yup..
My dad went in 3 times they said they couldn't find it.. they got a whole wall of red tops.. but dunno which is mine. No names on them...

SO I called again they guy on the phone claimed he found it... I sent my dad in to get it again.. not sure if he has yet or not... but I'll find out later.

I went to wally world (wal-mart) and picked one up. $209.00 not including the battery credit from my old one. That reminds me, I should take it in. I get $8.00 back on the old battery trade in.

Anyway I came across this thread from awhile ago I was just wondering if what im hearing is true that Optima only carries the one size in the red top now. Which puts me out of luck cause I have an Integra and its a really small battery. If so what else would you guys recommend?

SilverNeonRacer
Nope... optima has 4 sizes of Red top.. now they are very very similar in size... I have the print out on my desk.(lloked again, they list 4 models.. two are same everything cept for .6 of a pound)

Rocky's battery has batteries with higher CCA's then anybody else in say a 26R size. I forgot to ask warranty... whatever brand part source carries is stock rating, but 3yr free replacement 5 yr pro rated.

xJoshx
Yeah I just went and go a battery from rockys good guys, there is still something draining my battery though. I think it may be my compustar as i have heard some people have problems with that.

Look into odyssey batteries, best ones out there IMO. They carry a lot of the smaller batteries so might be something to look into.

I'm still looking for my wife's car.. do you know who carries them?

i've found a select few around that deal with them, NADP is the first, then also Battery Direct and Battery World (talk to Howard)

I have the same problem with my yellow top for my motorhome. after 1yr it is kaput, won't hold a charge....I can't find the reciept for the battery. I guess I am SOL when it comes to a replacement. Too bad though. I will not purchase another optima product again. A battery should last longer than 1yr IMO.

I was told with optima's some chargers will not charge then right, you need to hook a "regular", non spiral cell in paralle, and then charge them both.

From what I have read for the motorhome it is better to go with 2 X 6 volt batteries to run for auxillary power in a series to achieve the 12V. The kind they use in golf carts and fork lifts. Appenrently they are able to withstand a heavy discharge and recharge cycles. I am going to put it to the test this summer as I do a lot of dry camping
I am still pissed at the performance of the spiral cells....IMO not worth the money...Like the old saying goes....1st time shame on you! 2nd time shame on me!
