I like the Canadian Tire Motomaster Predator tires - I've got over 100K out of a set of them. Really pleased, and they come on sale quite often.
But in reality, if you drive for the conditions you should be fine with any of the budget tires at CT or Walmart (Probably the two cheapest places). I know CT offers free flat repair, etc with the tires which is nice. |

Hmmm, i got less than 100 kms out of my last set of predators.:D
But the cheapest winter tire outperforms the best all-season in the winter time. But if your stuck with all-seasons check out the house brands at CT and walmart. They are usually really hard and last a LONG time |

I not really looking for the no name crap, I believe thats whats on the car currently, and its scary as hell driving on ice...Now Im not looking for winters for a reason.
I want a good reputable brand that is reliable with the icey/snowy conditions... |

never buy all season tires...most of em are crap
u will find that during winter they will be skidding
all over the place
and during summer they will have hard time
gripping when the roads are wet
If you have money then i would defiantly
recommend that u buy specialty winter tires
n specialty summer tires...
trust me there is huge difference between all season
and specialty tires...
Yokohama Guardex 600 Passenger/Performance Tire
are good for driving in winter...they eat ice like no tomorrow
or if u dont want to spend that much then michelin x-ice are good tooo...
just my 2 cents..:D |

You must be a little heavy on the gas pedal, and a little jittery on the steering wheel. I've never had a problem driving all seasons in any condition, and I'm sure many people here feel the same. |

First of all it would be plain ignorance to ignore the benefits that winter tires clearly provide over all-seasons.
Also, not all tires within a given class are created equal.
Take a sample of 10 all-season tires in the same category. When you actually *test* the tires the data usually shows a vast difference between the 1st place and last place tire (in said group). But meanwhile you could argue they are all technically tires... they're all round, they all roll, they all... *work*. :dunno:
But just because a tire is cheap and lasts xxx,xxx km does not necessarily make it a GREAT tire. Certainly not the "best" tire, or even the safest tire, for a given person with a certain vehicle and a certain driving style. |

no i dont....
i m just speaking from my experience
you wont understand the difference untill you try
it urself...and trust me on that...
go buy the best all season tire
then buy any good winter tire (doesnt have to be best)
and drive it on snow and you will notice the difference
right away.....
you just cant compare the performance and reliability
of a winter tire to a all season tire...huge difference |

I've never had "problems", but I have had many times where I've slid with all seasons. Winter tires are like night and day. Throw a set on your car and compare, you'll realize just how crappy your all seasons are. |

I'm not denying that winter tires are better. If I was, I wouldn't have a set on my winter beater.
But the poster element_2nice is stating that with All Seasons you will find that during winter they will be skidding all over the place and during summer they will have hard time gripping when the roads are wet.
Which I find to be a completely false statement. Anyone who constantly experiences skidding in the winter and slippage during the rain in the summer with a decent set of all season tires should focus their efforts on improving their driving IMHO.
In all my years of driving I have yet to unintentionally lose control of my car during a rainy summer day. Let alone on a regular basis. And I know I'm not the only one who can say that. |

well check your stoping distance with all season on
and then check it with summer tires on
rain or no rain
you will see how much difference it makes.... |

You are obviously having problems comprehending Trevors posts. He never once said winter tires aren't better than summer tires. He agrees with that.
But because one guy drives like an idiot with all seasons doesn't mean they can't do the job. Person A could very well be way safer driving with all seasons in the winter than person B is with winter tires because person B will always push his vehicle to the limit and drive like a dumbass.
Trevor is just saying you sound like person B. :thumbup: |
