Warranty issue - Car starter will affect the warranty? - Click HERE for Original Thread

aznpryde87
hey i was just wondering if anybody can help me from experience. this my problem. i want to install a car starter in a 2005 gm vehicle, but before doing so i called the dealership to ask them whether it will affect my extended warrany. they said that even though it is proffesionally installed, if it turns out that the starter causes any issues we would be chared for the towing, diagnosis, and to fix it. i am just wondering what i should do whether i should go ahead and install the starter, or whether i should keep my warranty.
thanks any feedback would help

Go ahead and get it installed by a QUALIFIED installer and you will have no issues. I have had remote starters on all of my vehicles since the mid 90's. No isses ever.

warranty is overrated anyways :dunno:

One way to do it, is get your dealership to install it :P

Yah watch out, theirs a lot of hacks out their

i know that with competition chev, they will still honor a gm warrenty if the starter was installed by certified radio, not sure about other dealerships.

WTF do you need a gas-waster (car-starter) for? :dunno:

Ever hear of a block heater, or in-car heater? Far better for your car, and the environment.

thats a cheap dealership, last one i worked at was 95

(p.s. ^^^^HIPPY, quite a few of us drive somewhat of a performance vehicle, the milage isn't our biggest concern. on that note yes i agree SAVE THE TREES!)

LOL Please, like plugging your car in isn't a waste of electricity or anything.

And remote starting your car for 4 or 5 minutes every morning is a lot better for it than hopping in your "block heated" car and taking off right away.

Funny, I do both, if it's cold enough I plug it in, then I go out start it up(carb, no remote start for me :( ) let it idle for 5-10 til the interior is warm enough for me to drive and hte windows stay clear... then I drive...

Yea well I plug my car in, remote start it for 20 minutes, burn bald eagle heads and panda bears in my truck to keep it warm the whole way. I love the environment.

My car runs less to warm up now than it did without a starter, and I always plugged it in if it got cold regardless. Plugging it in only helps the engine out, it doesn't do fuck all for keeping my windows clear. One is to keep the car happy so it starts, the other is to keep it happy by not crashing into things because I can't see.

My point exactly... when I plug it in, I normally have it on a timer so it fires up the block heater about 2 hours before I want to drive.

thanks for the help. i got it installed at futureshop. they are MECP certified they said. i hope everything will be fine.

My last 4 cars have been under warranty and have had starters and I have never had a problem at the dealerships. You should be fine.
