| Why don't you post up the make/model and a "WTB" add in the marketplace, and perhaps someone here can help you out, instead of putting your friends shitty car on the same road as me. :dunno: |

| Good idea. Maybe your friend will kill another one of my friends with your car that has shitty tires and should have never been aloud on the road in the first place. |

| Wow, there is a lot of strong opinions on this forum. I hope you guys know that most cars on this board wont pass an out of province inspection. For example ones with aftermarket steering wheels, and nonworking daytime running lights, etc. I also happen to know a lot of you drive shit like this all winter long so the good car dosn't take the abuse. So help him out if you can, or STFU!!!!!! |

Ya help him out and then like I said before. Maybe he can help out in killing another one of my friends. Let's see your opinion once he gets his car passed and then kills one of your friends or someone in your family because his car was unsafe. So if you don't mind STFU, before someone else gets hurt for such a stupid reason. |

everyone knows someone who rebuilds cars(very poorly) and sells em, hell there must be 30+ shops/people who do this. and you know half of the cars they pump out wouldnt pass an inspection. but they make there way on the road some way or another.
so if you get your panties in a knot over this one car. maybe you shouldnt drive at all ,just to be safe. |

My car passed the same inspection they give semi's(obviously for the stuff my car didn't come with like air brakes the guy put N/A for). I had a heavy duty mechanic, a guy who safeties semi's for commercial use do my car. And my car is 20 years old - I only had to replace a fuel line, and I did that before I had the safety done.
As far as the question at hand.. Shocks - depending on the car, those can be cheaper than the safety inspection - Shoot I just replaced all mine cause I thought 20yrs.. ehh why not, plus I upgraded to the top o the line I could get for my car and it was only $250 for all 4.. CT cheepies woulda been under $75 for all 4.
Rust.. depends where.. minor body, they won't care - actual holes letting exhaust fumes inthe car.. no, frame rust - any thing more than surface - no.
Need a little more information.
I'll admit some places can be picky, my mom had a car that flunked due to exhaust(it was to be expected) and her rubber brake lines where weather checked.. not cracked, but checked.. like it had minor surface lines. |

I am trying to point out the fact that many people drive "winter beaters" that are not 100% inspection passed. Example: cracked windshields. The original post was asking for somewhere to inspect his car, not for your opinion on automobile safety. So go sell your hard luck story somewhere else. Anyway I am done cluttering up this thread, If you have anything else to say to me feel free to use the pm. |

Yes and I am trying to point out that maybe something should be done about it before more people get hurt. |

| Yeah, I am 100% for tougher inspections. And once a car is 10 years old it should have to be inspected yearly to stay on the road. |
|

Speaking as somebody with a 20yr old car, I think once a year would be too much, it wold piss me off.
If you made the inspection more rigid, you could probably get away with every 2 or 3 years.
Also, if you get the shops involved with not letting unsafe cars go back onto the road. Like a friend of mine works at CT(Which you all know is a licensed inspection facility) He's a tire buster and a guy brought a truck in for swapping shit tires for not much better tires, while on the hoist he noticed something disconcerning, like an issue with the frame or brakes, and he got a mechanic over to look at it, and they wouldn't let the owner drive it out. They said you can have us fix it, or tow it out.. the guy threw a fit, so they called some government agency, who towed it to the police impound... and I dunno what happened after that.
Sure it wouldn't help withthe back yard mechanic types.. but still. |

where in my post does it even state my opinion on this matter.?? i have none. i was only letting people know, if your worried about this one car be worried ABOUT ALL OF THEM!!.
you can wish all the cars in the world to hit me, but i hope a car never hits you, ever, or anyone for that matter. ive lost many to car accidents and would never wish the same on anyone even if i dont know them.

Alright I went a little far on that. Sorry. But it just really pissed me off because of my friends died. And I could almost guarentee it was because the car was so unsafe it should have never been on the road. And because people are passing these cars it's just causing more pain for people out here. This thread just hits a little close to home and it makes me mad people get away with stuff like this |

lol if that happened my neons would have to be inspected pretty soon...
i would probably not do it... and i think if shops did them more often they would be more lax about it just to get them out:dunno: |

That is retarded. Yearly inspections? Come on man. Maybe every 5 or 10, but seriously, how bad can a car get in 1 year? It's not like panels will rust through in 12 months.
But I agree, they should be harder, and the fact that it hasn't changed owners shouldn't mean a car is guaranteed to be safe. |

I have a perfect example - My dad bought a K-car, passed no prob when bought... he had it for 5 or 6 years(got it when it was 5yrs old) We started to have a problem with the engine(nasty nasty knock, valve train noise, etc, basically the engine was gonna grenade - I ran it one night a little hard, after it started to make noise, so I checked the oil it was 2 quarts low) Soooo anyhow, my dad takes it to a shop for an estimate on the engine.. they give him the bad news(basically needs new engine) and it turned out 3 of the 5 main bolts holding the K-member on had snapped off. We drove it for another week or two sparingly while my dad looked for a replacement. Going over roads like 116st south where it crosses 107ave.. you could feel the car lift off the K-member and then back on it.
The car got sold to a scrap yard who fixed it up(dunno how well though) |

| just insure with statefarm, i swear they dont ask for inspections on anything. but if a car is so unsafe would you be willing to put yourself in it, usually 2 rear blown struts wont kill anyone, but why would u wanna drive around with blown swtruts?? |

I saw a car with 2 dead rear struts, WOW I knew the guy and I was kinda paranoid to drive behind him, his wheels were leaving the road soo much.
I'm with co-operators... both times I've had safeties done, and forgot to give it to them... haven't said a thing. I do have the safety in my glove box incase they ask. But they're a buncha goof's they've messed up my coverage a couple times, I was supposed to have fopr bussiness use and they put 4a on(taxi/limo type) coverage. On this car I wanted collision... $3/mo so why not.. they didn't put it on initially. |

not sure if your comment is meant for me or not. I don't think yearly should have to be done. I would say more like every 3 years on cars 10+ years |

| Nah, I dunno why i quoted you. haha It was directed at the guy who said inspections should be done yearly, sorry about the confusion. |

lol whoever said that should be shot!! im not even gonna bother reading back.....and everyone should agree
i could just picture the cluster f%$cks if we all had to get an inspection every year......yes blah blah blah, but it would still be a pain in the ass. |
