timing belt snapped, need a good mechanic - Click HERE for Original Thread

rubbermaid
so my car broke down on me on Monday and got it towed to the dealer, and had them run a compression test. Immediately they knew the timming belt snapped becauase there was no responses coming from the valves. They quoted me $1,800, but might be more (damn dealers), to get inside my engine and maybe replace the parts.

I am pondering on it. I wanna see if anyone can recommend another good shop that will do the same work for cheaper.

it's a 2000 Intrepid 2.7 Litre

Thanks guys

these engines are pricey i just got a quote on a used one for 1700$.
i'd try ames auto works 483 2266 TALK TO BOB IN AUTO

$1800 is not that expensive considering.

usually costs around $600-$700 in labour alone to take apart the top end of an engine. then they have to clean a lot of crap too before they can put it all back together again.

call up down town auto, jim is the main guy, he changed my timing belt for around 400 that i remember, it was a civic tho, but give him a call, you might get it alot cheaper there

well i guess it could happen. but me and my delt with him for a while and he would give us good deals and never had problems with him. thast from my experience

downtown auto? on 101 street by the garden bakery?

that's quite possibly one of the shadiest places I've ever remotely dealt with.

from my experience, that is.

seevik
actually its 95th st or so and 118th

1800 seems very reasonable but im pretty sure the 2.7l have a timing chain so it might not be a bargain? have also heard the 2.7s are notorious for engine failure, search google and you might find something.

STiPWR
best bet is to call around dude.
