Stupid Remote start question - Presetting - Click HERE for Original Thread

SilverNeonRacer
Ok, I haven't seen this asked so I'm gonna ask it.

I checked on Compustar's website, no hints to an answer either.

Back in 98/99 my wife got a remote start for Christmas, it was a compustar. Now with that one, since she drove a starndard tranny she would have to put the car in N, pull the e-brake, turn off the lights, play with the remote then the markers would come on, she could take out the key, get out of the car, lock the doors, whatever, hit a few more buttons on the remote and the car would turn off.

If she didn't do the song and dance on shutdown, she couldn't remote start it.

Have the newer remotes starts fixed that? Like they check the Nutral safety switch, clutch position, etc and just fire it up? She never ever leaves it in gear(cept for when I broke the e-brake handle towing the car, long different story, but I had it fixed withen a couple days)

Also how do they deal with factory alarms? I know for my wife's car it'll need a bypass for the sentry key, but not sure about the actual alarm. I'd probably go for an older model alarm/starter maybe a 2WFM-AS or a 2W900FM-AS.

Thanks and sorry for the newbish questions.

For my compustar (2W8000FMR) all I have to do is stop the car, leaving my foot on the brake, put it in neutral, pull the E-brake then take my foot off the brake. Then when I take the key out it will run until I get out of the car and shut the door, in which it will shut the car off and arm the alarm.

Oh and my factory alarm is still on there and works.

SilverNeonRacer
Do you use 1 remote or two? Like does the compustar arm the factory alarm?

bluSRT
Ya I just use the compustar remote, its locks, unlocks and arms both alarms.

Ravendarat
It depends on the car as to whether or not the Factory Alarm will work off the compustar remote. On most cars you can use the Compustar to arm the car alarm but there are some cars out there that will only arm and disarm with the factory remote. As for the other thing, they still use the same song and dance to set the car in ready mode for remote starts. You wont see that change because it means that an electrical failure of the nutreal saftey switch wont enable you to start a car thats in Gear.

SilverNeonRacer
Well I'm guessing bluSRT is talking about an SRT4, and the security features of an SRT4 should be almost identical to my wife's Neon.

The song and dance of pressing the brake, yank the e-brake, what blusrt said is fine, but the whole playing with the remote is a pita, it really was.

I'm pretty sure the wife holds the brake while she yanks the e-brake as is, I don't, unless I have too, but I don't drive that car often.

Ravendarat
Ya a neon can have the factory alarm controled with the compustar remote so it should be no problem for ya.
