sup Guys?

im new to this whole "new civic" thing, never had a civic with a d16y8 before, have a couple questions for you, first of all, my car is hesitating, would this be the fuel filter/ pump? or what else could it be?

secondly, where the hell is the block heater cord on the engine (where does it come out of?)
i cant find mine!! need to know, so i can buy one or not

thanks again:confused:

what do you mean by hesitating? you have to tell us exactly what is doing in order for us to help you

jetpuff77
k.. well im driving, in any gear, and just cruising at the same speed, i press the throttle slowly, and it doesnt hesitate, it just accelerates slowly, but if i mat it, it will accelerate, but not as fast as it should be, and every once in a while it just like hiccups... kinda like accelerating fast and transfering from dry pavement to ice and back to dry.. but fast.. and repeated, and it doesnt do it consistently... does that help?

sorry mods, pressed new thread instead of reply... son of a whore

DomesticDrifter
try downshifting? if you're cursing along in 4th going 55-60km/h at low rpm if you mat it you're not going to speed up very fast... d16 isn't exactly a torque producer you're going to have to try keep the car in the power band and in the right gear to avoid this problem

Britain
If you want some kikc get an intake header and exhaust... or a turbo. lol. I have a NEW greddy evo2 exhaust ($450) and a lighlty used dc sports 4-1 cermaic header for your car ($300).. Tese bolt ons will add kick.

Also, honda's make their power in the high rpm (vtec especially like on your y8) so driving in a low gear wont make alot of power... You really don't feel any kick from the SOHC motors we have until they hit vtec (4,800rpm for you). PM me about the parts or if you just want to know more!

Nis240
This sounds very similar to what my uncles 98 Civic si does. It will cruise along on the highway forever without doing anything, as soon as you give its gas to speed up then slow back down to what speed you were cruising is wont respond unless you downshift to 4th.

Havent been able to pin point the problem, changed :spark Plugs, cap and rotor, fuel filter and O2 sensor.

jetpuff77
nono.. it accelerates fine.. trust me i know a civics power band all too well, even when i downshift it hesitates.. im thinking fuel system fukered? i have a fuel filter on the way, i can hear the fuel pump.. so i think it works.. it hesitates through out the rpm range.. but sometimes it doesnt
:dunno:

mr2 = expensive to mod properly and almost no quality shops to work on them so you better learn how to sling wrenches yourself, just ask Stealth... he did a N/A to Turbo swap himself

ooo i can sling wrenches, i do all of my own work, on my cars and my friends, but every once in a while you need a little help diagnosing a problem.. ...so back on topic

COULD ANYONE PLEASE ANSWER MY QUESTIONS???

Hi jetpuff77,

I put my money on ignition. Specifically your spark plug wires. How old are they? They may be worn or cracked on the inside, causing intermitant connections. Next check your spark plugs. Make sure they are in good shape and gapped properly.

Mike

jetpuff77
alright.. im not sure how old the wires and plugs are, i've only had the car for 3 days, i will look into it

****ONE THING I DIDNT MENTION BEFORE IS THAT SOMETIMES WHEN ITS COLD YOU HAVE TO HOLD THE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR FOR IT TO START!! MY 240 DID THAT AND THE FUEL PUMP WENT 4 DAYS LATER... SAME PROBLEM??*****

BlueTurboEGG
I'd go with Mike's suggestion.

I'm thinking about fouled plugs honestly. But This sounds like an ignition problem.

jetpuff77
so if it was the ignition system, wouldnt it make the car rough idle?

Soulfly
Your Block Heater is Located on the back of your block.. by your oil filter. ( Pic Below.. the Orange one.. to the left of the oil filter ).

It should already be in there.. you just might need a cord.. But It might not be in there... :P

anyway.. It's Kinda Hard to Diagnose the problem Online..

If you wanna Take me for a ride onetime.. we could try and Pin Point something... It sounds like it's Dumping fuel.. or Could be your MAP Sensor or TPS.. But that should Throw a code, But maybe it doesn't think anything is wrong..

Anyway.. PM me.. and we'll take it for a spin..

jetpuff77
thanks for that soulfly, appreciate the pic... you have been pm'ed,

any other hypothesies?:smack:

SketchifisT
Going to repeat others, To me it sounds like spark plugs and or the wires. Just do all the typical maitenance shit, change the oil , just start fresh.

Make sure your filter is good and clean.

Like soulfly said without being that ima just guess, from history it sounds like Plugs but if your having other issues , I may go out and say the Fuel filter, how old is the car as well?

My bet is the plugs , but if they are okay , then probably the fuel filter

btw honda-tech is also your friend in these times

jetpuff77
stupid thing wont cold start, cant find block heater cord (dont think there is one).. purchased fuel filter, going back to k-tire to get plugs, and oil/filter, thanks for the advice, ill let you know how it goes!!
thanks again

THUD
Well plugs wires Cap&rotor and fuel filter are a good start, I say it's the cap&rotor it's been the one thing that has always caused me problems like that.
But if you still have any problems lets us know.

P.S if you have to oppertuinty check the compression do so wright it down.

jetpuff77
would the fact that i have a HUGE crack in my #1 manifold tube? be the cause of my hesitation?... i dont have much money, and i dont have a compression tester so.. if i can find someone with one.. i will post the numbers

so does anyone have a good header/ manifold for cheap, i have acces to a megan racing one for 200bucks, (4-2-1), brand new.. good deal?

SketchifisT
Ceramic? And yeah a crack would probably be an issue.

Like i stated before

www.honda-tech.com

If you have a honda its the place to go , the information there is unreal , most people have your engine or will be able to help.

I can help you if you want

freakshow_host79@hotmail.com

name is sheldon honda's are my thing . some guys around here can help as well.

Soulfly
the Crack in the header.. Shouldn't Matter THAT much... and Make Sure you use NGK Plugs.. Everything else Is Poop.

Like I said.. if you can get it started.. Come take me for a ride.. we can try and diagnose something.

jetpuff77
not ceramic.. and i will for sure soulfly.. just a question for those with megan headers... do they have a stamp on them saying Megan Racinf on them?cause something tells me they are knockoffs..
n e way got a new thermostat in 'er.. and a fuel pump, like i said, still hesitation, prolly plugs, gonna change them tomorrow, they are old, but looked equally bad, not one stood out, thats the next thing..

Soulfly
those Megan Header's usually have the wrap around tag thinger on one of the runners.. Similar to the 'DC' Header's..

There can't be a Knock off of Megan... lol.. Megan already IS a knock off.. lol:lol:

jetpuff77
Hesitation is gone... replaced spark plugs, cleaned throttle body/intake.. runs perfect..just need a exh.manifold
could anybody help me out?

WAIT ITS BACK, NOW MY IDLE IS AFFECTED, NOT AS BAD AS BEFOR.. BUT ITS STILL THERE:dunno:
