Suggestions fo an AWD car... - Click HERE for Original Thread

typer0853
Hey guys,
I'm looking to buy a newer street car, which will be driven all year round. I would like to go down the AWD path and am looking for suggestions. I have been looking at WRX's, S4's and G35X's...but am wondering if I am missing out on another car which comes in AWD. I am a Honda guy, but Honda in all their wisdom, will only offer SH-AWD in SUV's or the RL

Requirements:
The car needs to be a 4 door
Mannual transmission preferred
Cannot be an SUV
Would prefer something sporty
Model to be no older than 4 years
Would prefer that the car is less than $40K.

Thanks in advance.

David

Bummer you want new...

What about Jetta's with 4-Matic? OR ANYTHING VW Though, if you've already turned down S4's.... Jetta would only be a step down.

Mazda 6? There's an AWD version i'm pretty sure?

You're looking at some pretty expesive stuff... so what about Volvo? i'd sell my family for a V70 R AWD...

edit: n/m volvo just read $40K limit

supeg
Mazdaspeed 6...

Sports under 40k

4 Wheel-Drive, 4 door, only come in stick.
4 cly direct injected 2.3 liter turbo with 274hp 280 torque

Engine is all forged and A/F ratio from factory is in 9's so lots of mod potential.

fartcannon
g35x amazing car, i work at infinity and those cars are just class and have a nice punch to them.

Supra_devil
i love my impreza, a WRX can be had under 40 new. AWD, 4 doors, good power, lots of potential. Everyone i have talked to with one says they love it.

Blaine B.
2002+ WRX or 04+ STi.
Hands down for the money the best deal. Lots of money to be saved by importing from the States as well.

Alpha Gangsta
Subaru Legacy is a nice ride as well.
Not as sporty as a WRX but a bit more luxurious.

McFly
not new at all but GTR with a block heater = the l33t3st winter car evarrrr:D

Fish_e_o
beamers
have some 4 wheel drive cars

dtjohnst
If you didn't want new and 4 dr, I'd say a Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4.....damn that's a sexy AWD 4WS car. But for what you're looking for......

I'd go with the G35X.

McFly
if you could buy the g35x in the coupe it would be one sexy car.

and buy Ryans gallant vr4 haha:thumbup:

GTS Jeff
Take a look at the Legacy GT. It's like a classier STi.

You could try finding a used 325XI it's all wheel drive and it only comes in four door. ( well for now) Might have to look around to try and find one for under 40G. Deals can be found on newer bimmers. A guy at work found a 325I in red deer with less then 50K km on it and one year warrenty left on it for 28 500 at the honda dealership. Man they gave that car away. ha ha

gab
wrx hands down.

actually you can get the 328xi coupe now. 3ers AWD Coupe FTW!

additionally, you should able to get a used '06 E90 325xi for under $40k.. that would be a nice classy ride.
in the same category, i'm sure you can find an '06 IS250 AWD for under $40k.

I would go wrx as well.......the one I have now is my second one and I love it. And if you want to do some mods to it, they respond well to them.

Theres a black 2006 WRX on sale on NASIOC.com (I think its in Calgary) The guy is asking $29 900. Hes been trying to sell it for a bit and keeps dropping the price.

Hustler M
WRX or Volvo S40

Thanks very much for the ideas all.

After doing a lot of research this weekend and "discussing" things with the wife, I think I have narrowed it down to the following, in order of preference:

2004 - 2005 WRX STI
2005 - 2006 WRX
2002 - 2003 BMW 330 XI

My next question is what sites do you recommend to find a car in the USA...I have been searching autotrader.com, craigslist, & the NASIOC forms...any others???

Thanks

Audi A4 is another one you should add to your list. Easy to upgrade and a very classy car too.

its too bad audi doesn't offer the lower motors with AWD.
i'd totally buy an A3 with AWD as my only option if i could. its easier to get power out of the 2.0T motor than the 3.2L V6.

Lakerfan32
I would definitely look at the Legacy GT. They are made in the US so if you import one, you'll avoid the duty/taxes typical on a car built outside of North America and save lots of money!

You can get the 2.0T with awd in the A4. And a 6 speed manual. I have driven one and they are great.
