JDM RX-7's starting to come in.... - Click HERE for Original Thread

For those RX-7 guys on the board, what should you commonly look for in a 91+ FD3S Rx7 for issues when buying one? I have noticed the RX-7's are starting to come over from Japan and can be had for relatively low prices. :dunno:

look for a blown or about to blow motor.

Plan to do a rebuild.. or it will be the death of you.

As shawley said... get a compression test done before you buy anything. Also most cars that are going for "relatively low prices" have been in either front or rear end accidents.. or both.

I can't wait till' people start swapping in LS1/LS2 motors and selling them. As much as I think rotaries are neat and almost bought an FD myself.. too much hassle in the end for me, at least for an often daily driven car.

I would never consider driving an rx-7 without a rotary engine.

Agreed it is kind of the point of getting a RX7. If you did a swaop in the Fd or FC then the car wouldnt be 50/50 any more. I dont think. :dunno: Nothing compares to the sound of a rotary at 8000 rpms, its like an airplane.

i'm aware they sound nice but the ls swap doesn't ruin the balance of the car.

The LS1 is lighter than the rotary and all it's turbo hardware.

I wasnt going to say anything but ppl are still talking about it so:

LS1 RX-7

Front Left 688lbs Front Right 678 lbs

Rear Left 696lbs Rear Right 677 lbs

You can do the math to figure out exact %

I would never consider driving a RX-7 WITH a rotary.

To each their own.

The rotary has its issues, not unlike any other vehicle.

Once those issues are resolved and its properly tuned, I can't see it be anything but a blast.

LSx motors are still sweet.
