200lbs you'd suspect, just a random guess? Also how would they rebalance the car, by adding weight to the rear, thus adding overall by your weight estimation 400lbs to the car?
Yeah i'd suspect, didnt feel like looking up the engines and checking the actual difference.
And i dont think i want to dignify your question with a response. If you knew anything about bulding a proper race car, then you would know the answer to that question. but no, the overall addition would not be 400lbs. |

| There's no manual in the SC430, and they are slow as molasses. My dad and I took one for a testdrive a year or two ago. I think its sexy, it got some looks with the top down and had a nice interior but it also had soft suspension and poor power for "300hp". My little sister's SRT4 was more fun to drive. |

Yeah, I NEED a manual gearbox..so the SC430 Wouldn't work. Also, for 50k+ it should have more than 300HP imo.
Charles, what do you mean about the SRT-10 Models? The Viper? or the Ram? I don't want a truck for sure, and the SRT-10 Vipers are more than 50k.
Right now its a toss up between the Vette and the Viper.

Seriously though. Just about the number one "Bad Ass" car on the road is a Viper. Everyone knows what it is, and it catches everyones eye no matter what. A Vette is another Vette. (I love Vettes too though), and anything modified (tuner) oh boy they're all over. Now a Viper......... Hey Jamie
If your looking at spending that much money on a car. My first choice is the MKIV, and in facted it was this october I brought one back from cali. I've spend a lot of time out at the tracks in the Houston area and there are tons of vipers and vette and supras. The vettes were killing the vipers all day long on the track, and of course the supras where crazy crazy fast. I went to the new car show in Houston and the new Vette is crazy. It has 505 hp and it ways 3100 lbs. Tranny and battery are mounted in the back to equal the weight. 6 piston cailpers. Not sure what the asking price is. If you are still looking for a Supra I know of an amazing black supra in houston. He wants 34usd for it. It has 38000 miles on it, aboustly amazing condition. Also my buddy has a M3 2006 for sale in edmonton. Its a damn nice car as well. Might be a little more then what you want to spend. |

Courtesy of Shane (Garnet Canuck) from www.G35Driver.com
Best Motoring has an awesome vid in their March 2007 edtion, has anyone seen it? It's extremely thorough and they have a five lap race between the four cars. They start from a roll and the IS350 seems to rocket out of the gate compared to the other 3 cars. In the end, the 335i and G35 clearly outhandled the IS and Spec.B. The results were:
G35 (tie for 1st)
335i (tie for 1st)
IS350 3rd
Spec.B 4th
Like I mentioned, they started out from a roll in a hp/weight order....so the IS350 was first, the G35 second, the 335i third, and the Spec.B last. Not surpisingly, the 335i had the best laptime. The 335i tied with the G, but the G also started out in third place.
The only caveat is that it is in Japanese, so I can't understand a thing what they are saying. Fortunately, you can read all the numbers posted though.

(1:12 run time) http://video.google.ca/videoplay?do...924536670716304
It's a fantastic video, wish there was a English translation because the bulk of the video talks about driver impressions and comparisons. none the less the G35 came out smelling like a rose... I was frankly a little disappointed in the 335i. looking at the lap portion of the video, it surprisingly only had a 3km/hr top speed over the G35, and had a second better for it's best lap time, which is good, however through laps 3, 4, and 5 it could never take the G35. even when he got daring and entered the turn with more speed and tried to pass on the outside a few times, it seems at what ever speed they were at, the 335i was short on power and couldn't pass, and actually fell back behind the G35 coming out of the turn every time, and they showed both had the gas floored.
As for the is350, you could definitely see the sloppiness of the handling coming through in the video. but you could also see that the engine was very good, I was impressed by it's power and acceleration out of a turn, but the reason it fell behind the G35 and 335i was strictly due to poor handling, it couldn't hold the turn and you could see it getting some body roll and loosing traction while the other cars didn't. in the last lap, the Subaru was even breathing heavy down the IS's neck and could have passed on a few turns, but just didn't have the power to keep it's position once the turn straightened out. |

A remote control car isn't exactly my dream car...plus I dont know how good it would be at driving me around.
This thread was about what car you would buy for 50k.
I already have seperate savings for a down payment on a house. I plan to buy my first property this summer.
As for the S2000 comments. I doubt you can find one (even a MY00 for $25k) Also, I test drove a MY04 S2K this fall and I was pretty disapointed. My B18C5 Hatch seemed faster than the S2K. It's under powered IMO. A supercharger could fix that problem though.
I also found it VERY tight. I had to have the seat adjusted all the way back and reclined all the way back. In this position, I just fit in the car. I'm not a huge guy either..I'm about 5 '10

I was seriously considering a Viper, but the more I think about it, the more impractical it seems to be. So here is a little info about what I'm looking for;
I will have approx 50k to spend
It doesn't have to be driven year round
2 or 4 door doesn't matter, but I am looking for something sporty and fun to drive.
Must be manual
So what would you guys buy if you had 50k?
I currently drive a 2002 Mercedes Benz c230 Kompressor Sport Coupe (6 Speed)
Here are a few of my recent thoughts..
Import a Supra TT from the U.S.
Possibly a newer Lexus IS300
Honda S2000
Corvette Convertable (newer)
Nissan 350Z
As you can see, there is lots of variety...I'm not looking for JUST an import, etc
What else? Any help would be great guys!
Oh and btw, I'm not interested in any JDM garbage, Thanks!
Jamie

That was my suggestion as well.
With the Exige available you should be able to pick up a used Elise. That, and any sort of maintenance on the engine/tranny can't be expensive since all the parts are readily available here (Celica isn't it?) |

Where are they around $50,000? $60,000 is the cheapest I've found, and although the Elise would be fun and definately the better track car, I think the Viper would be more fun. |

I think Jason (Inzane) said it best that just because they use a motor from a reliable company, doesn't mean they inherit the reliability in the quality of build, etc.
I think Chris (Insomniac) got a quote from a Calgary distributor for about $67,000. |

The IS300 does come with a 2JZ. A 2JZ-GE
Supra comes with a 2JZ-GTE. Bascally pick up the gte longblock for 2 grand bolt it up to your ge head with a 2.8mm head gasket and you have a 4 door supra. Now comes the tranny swap...R154(500-600hp) or full on 6 speed gettrag from the supra that can respectively hold 1000+ RWHP. I have 2 of these cars and I bought my first one brand new. $170,000 k's and not a frickin hiccup...how many people can say that? these cars are bulletproof. I am proof to this. plus you can crank em up to 700 streetable rwhp with a turbo & the following mods listed here. You can even pick up already turbo'd IS from the states for under 25,000 us. |
|

I do know where there is a S2000 with a 2JZ swap and it making around 600 whp with room for alot more.
Its in the US and it has low miles and the best part is its going for $24000 US.
It would Make a killer summer car:thumbup:

| viper or convertible corvette, especially if you have a daily driver or something else that you can drive year round |
|
|
| Jojdm |
Well this question depends on whether this will be your main driver or a secondary car.
If this would be my primary driver if I could not find a good one locally I would most likely go to Washington state or Cali.
I would pick up a 00-04 LS430. I have a 99' LS400 and these things have everything power v8,looks, comfort. So when I decide to change it out I would get one of these.
If you have another ride, my secondary car would be a 2003 to 2006 SL500 (update model look). The reason being is there is an abundance of these cars in the states and you can pick them up in mid 30-40K range in very good condition, if you get it locally you will get hosed with the price.
I have been considering a vette aswell and I would consider one in the same model year as the SL500, due to a lot of people trading their old vettes for the new ones. With these models you would be able to pick up a Z06 for a reasonable price, If you are one of the many including myself that despise the look of the flip up lights and think they look dated. There is a conversion available that replaces this with a flush lamp and then an upgrade to HID would only be needed ( approx $1500)
With the Viper you'll probably need another 50K on top of the 50K you will spend just on upkeep, obviously the others mentioned require additional maintenance from the dealer, but I think the viper takes the cake. I had a friend that had one and it was constantly being worked on.
but then again its your 50K, and I am sure you'll get a sweet ass ride regardless.
best of luck.

Buy a $9000 RHD FD.
Then keep the other $41000 around, 'just in case'. |

My personal fav would have to be a G35...a used one, seen them for around 33-38g's.
Seen many with lite mods to unmolested and if you have plans to it's a perfect car to drift or just race in general with comfort and style.
An Elise or aerial atom to the extremely more fun side, hmmm have you put any thought into Hybrids as an option?
What ever car you end up with please you have to do a smoke show for me...for everyone, I figure if you spend that much money on a car ya gotta share that new car sent. |
