| Get a late 90's GTi VR6. They take to SC kits very well. |

All GTI's are sweet, but the best (IMO) are the MK2 and MK3. MK2 is nice and light and agile, as well as having a very reliable and bulletproof motor. Try and find a 2.0L 16V if you can.
The MK3 is also a beast, but heavier than the MK2, but it makes up for it because it is more aimed at being comfortable compared to the MK2. Try and find the VR6. Once you hear the sound of a VR at WOT you wont ever drive the car gently again |

| i have had a mk3 vr6 and a mk2 16v and the mk3 was more reliable by far but the mk2 is way more fun. |

I don't know if the VR6 was a trim level, or just the Engine option. (15* narrow angle V6 with one head, so it's more of a staggered I6 starting at 2.8L, I think) It's one of the most interesting engines out there. |

for the mk3:
golf- 2.0L
GTI- 2.0L with some upgrades like rear discs i believe
GTI VR6 which has everything...some have leather some don't, some have heated seats some don't...
I have a mk3 VR6, i'm pretty happy with it, but i want FI... |

| and a 1.9 if you count the tdi |

see if you can find one of those uber rare 1.8T ones :)
i think they were US only, or something.... |

| i am pretty sure there was never a stock 1.8t mk3, but i know there are alot of swaps out there. |

| My '89 Fox had a 1.8, but it was transverse. Now there is a car worth slapping a turbo on. It had equal length axles from a transaxle, (actually had the same part numbers, as there was no left from right) so no torque steer. |
