what kind of racing do you plan on next year? - Click HERE for Original Thread

Murph
Just wondering who plans on what for next year.

me: Solo 1, Open track events, Auto-x

95EagleAWD
Open track, hopefully. Can't do solo one because I don't want a cage in the car.

ChromeDragon
AutoX, open track, drifting, possibly a pass or two down the strip just to see what it can do.

DSM
Drag racing for me.

Not only that but the potential to total your car at a venue like Race City is very high, and at a *timed* event like Solo 1 you can forget about collision coverage.

I'd consider racing a low cost racer-on-a-budget (like maybe an FC fix'er-upper or something) in Solo 1, but not my Z. No F'in way.

For me it'll be mostly autocross, a HPDE or two, and maybe an occasional trip to the dragstrip.

Invalid Zero
A few things but the one that really can't get out of my head is bringing home a 12 second timeslip.

Hoping to get kicked off the Drag Strip for running sub 11.5, and getting some Autocrossing down too. This will be my first year Autocrossing.

JonJonPoPong
Ill be RaCeN on da streets cuz I live my life a quater mile at a time.

CanuckDave
Going to find a newer bike in the spring probably, and start doing track days at stratotech. Can't wait

You dont need a cage/roll bar for solo 1.

as long as you drive with car preservation in mind you wont crash. Your on the track by yourself. People come out with M3's 911's Ford GT's (not mustangs but the 150,000 GT)

I'm well aware of this. I'm just pointing out that there are a LOT of hazards at the Race City track, and most of them would be quite fatal to the car (not the driver). If you lose it during a 'driving school', you're still somewhat protected with insurance. But not so if you're being timed (solo I, solo II, etc.).

In recent years, there have been at least 2 cars I know of that have been totalled at HPDEs (ie. a school, not a "race"), a Ferrari and an NSX. At an HPDE I was at last year, an M3 owner running in the advanced class almost lost his car to the swamp by the chicane (turn 8)... he luckily stopped with just his back axle in the water. And that same day I went off at turn 6 (in the wet) and stopped just short of another swamp.

Some corners, depending if its the inside or outside, would be inconsequential. But others... like if you overcooked your brakes coming into Turn 9... ouch.

I'm just saying after experiencing the track, seeing the hazards, knowing the risks, I wouldn't want to risk my car (that's been such a large investment over the years) to a total write-off scenario while having no coverage. IMO the likelihood of totalling your car on on a roadcourse like Race City is much higher than the drag strip (at least at our 'street legal' levels of competition).

This will be my first season racing shifter karts. I've been doing practice days, but I'm REALLY looking forward to some wheel to wheel stuff.

Otherwise, just autocrossing with the Porsche club. I'm gonna get it under 100.00s this year!!

I'll be chasing at your heels Justin! :p

THUD
I want to do a fair bit more autox this year, I only did a few last time around but not enough ,though I did go-to a lot more races just lacked racing in them.
Some drag's down the strip on a hot summers night too and for sure any road track races to be had, but I need a car to send to the Cow town Chamber of Death !!!
I would love to try my hand at the dry asphalt style of drifting competition for sure but I gotta find wheels for the right price first.
This upcoming race season should be kickass! :beer

GT34
I just picked up an rx8 this year and I'm hoping to do some auto-x this summer. Maybe a trip to the drag strip but mostly auto-x. Wouldn't mind trying drifting this summer too.

baker_jeff
I'll be drag racing for sure.
