so i got news that is pretty much ranks as one of the shittest news I could possibly get....
Okay, so i get a call from my insurance broker and apparently they decided to do a check on me and now effective March, 2007 I am officallly classified as a high risk driver and they are cancelling my policy and putting me on a policy for "high risk drivers!"
Now look at this road block situation,
my WRX is financed,so all in all to Insure the WRX, FULL COVERAGE, it is going to be $11,300.00/year.
If I sell the WRX and get like a shitty vehicle and jus put Liability on it (aka P.L.P.D.) It's still around $8,000/year. I am not allowed to even insure a vehicle for jus couple months (so like over summer) w/ this "FACILITY POLICY" (insurance company for high risk drivers) b/c part of the policy says u have to have Liability on ur vehicle for the whole year!
So I have to sell my WRX and I have nothing, I have called tons of insurance companies and there all quoting me that rate or a lil higher.
Jus to give u some background of how our ticket system works. I have 9 tickets on my drivers abstract. 5+ your considered high risk. Obviously u all are going to say "you shouldnt speed" well we all know were guily of it, unfortnatley my last vehicle was heat bag and i got caught alot and for some reason I got away scott free until now, which sucks!!
Anyways thats my story, my life offically sucks and i mean that too..... |
|

Sorry to hear about your luck...that would suck.
Just a question though, after the 2nd or 3rd or 4th or 5th ticket...don't you think you should have learn't your lesson? Its sad that it took this for you to realize how shitty it is to speed.
Oh and btw, I can think of news that would be WAY worst than that;
Find out you have HIV/Aids
Find out your whole family and 20 of your closes friends died on a plane crash
Find out you are going to jail for life over a crime you didn't commit, etc, etc, etc

I would switch insurance companies. A buddy of mine has a $45K car, and he's pretty young (early 20's) and his record isn't great. About 9 demerits and 2-3 accidents on his license. He's getting full coverage for around $450/month. That's like $5500/year. Half what your insurance company is asking. He's insured with RBC.
Call 1-800-769-2526 that's there phone number to get a quote. It takes like 5 minutes. Come back and let us know if they quoted you any different. |

RBC must be forgiving since he had that many accidents. how long has he driven for though? i got quoted 8k a year after i had a little run in with a lying sack of shit, im still giving up my car, but i wouldnt mind seeing how much they charge |

| He's been driving for ~6 years, some smaller tickets (non-demerit tickets) have come off his license already. |

Nevermind the insurance implications for a sec. How did you manage to retain a valid driver's license with that many tickets? Surely 9 tickets on your abtract all at the same time would nibble down on your 15 demerits rather quickly. |

True.

There are many things that are much worse than losing the ability to drive.
9 tickets is insane by the way....... by the second ticket I received the novelty wore of for me..... but anyhoo.
The question I would be asking, is how long will it be before you have this 'status' removed?
I believe a ticket still stays on your abstract 3 years? So the day you drop below 5 tickets you should go for insurance. |

So pretty much you knew this would be coming? Maybe you need this to take time and think about what driving really is about. It IS a privilege and just because you have a license, doesn't mean you can drive however you want. Speed limits and laws are in place for a reason.

Nine tickets and you bought a WRX? You should have known you would be paying through the nose for insurance.
Not to sound like a prick, but you don't sound like a very safe driver. You got those tickets for a reason.
Tickets are a pain, but only in your wallet. Much better than the physical pain or death you could have caused someone else while obtaining those tickets.
Consider it a lesson learned.

Looks like it's the 52 passenger limo for you. If I was in the same situation I would suck it up and bus it myself. On the odd occasion you need to go somewhere that you can't bus to, rent a car or take a cab. After a few years your rates will be back down.

| Jesus, I just looked at that calculator. That 9th ticket took you from $6,454 to $11,617. See if you can take a defensive driver course and get a ticket or two knocked off. The $400 you spend there would save you thousands in the end. |

Except they remove the demerits if you are in demerit trouble on your licence, they have no bearing on your insurance costs. The insurance companies dont look at the demerits they look at the tickets themselves |

You still need insurance on a scooter.... now a Moped that cannot go faster than 50km/h or whatever.. you don't.
I had 9 demerits at one point and I cringe every renewal, or rather anytime I get mail from my ins co that they pulled an abstract.. but they're raping me enough on their "computer glitches" right now(They claim I've had said coverage, but due to a computer glitch I haven't been paying for it, so now I gotta play catch up) |

But at over $10,000 year, some people may see as cheaper to risk running without insurance, based off the no insurnace fine.(unless they get into an accident)
But on the out of province note...
If you move, and I mean move to a small town in Alberta it'll save you about $2000 on insurance, well PLPD, dunno if collision and comp will be affected. I was also told that getting "all perils" can be cheaper than comp and collision, but covers the same coverage

the only thing I'll say is that 3/4 people that I know who tried that got caught. change your situation and don't let the situation change you. It sucks, but I mean, walk the path that you paved. I was in a simliar situation (bought a car, invested over $10K into it and it was still a lemon -could've done an insurance scam for it, but didn't... my future is worth a whole lot more than $10K), but you feel better about yourself if you suck it up. Plus, insurance companies have been doing what they've been doing for a very long time. with the amount of tickets that you get, your insurance company will put 1 and 1 together and eventually you'll get caught. You'll gladly pay $11,000 worth of insurance a year compared to if you ever got caught for insurance fraud. then the *only* route you'll have is to drive around un-insured. Is the rest of your future worth $11,000? Take the bus for a year, bum a ride, take a cab... after a year, it'll go down a bit... after 3 years you'll be back to normal.

cool. but I'm not saying that he should drive without insurance. Just saying it's not in his best interest to try and get insured as a new driver in another province and drive around here.
moving to a small town in alberta won't save you anything because you'll still have an alberta driver's license... and an alberta driver's abstract. you'd have to get a driver's license in a completely different province, prove that you are a resident, etc. etc. If you'd invest as much time in a PT job as you would driving to that other province trying to get insurance, you'd have made up half your annual insurance... then you're committing insurance fraud for $6500. Last I checked nobody's future was worth $6500. |

So whatever the time line is for those 2 to drop of your abstract. Then apply for insurance. |

I think that you should get 3 more tickets, then drive without insurance and a license, get caught impaired. then hopefully they will take your license away for a long time and our streets will be safer with you off of them.

I take no liability for this, HYPETHEOTICALLY you could...
1. Sell your vehicle to
- family member/someone you trust/someone stupid enough to let you do this
- must be at a different address
- has a clean driving record (duh)
2. Have them insure it
3. You "borrow" the vehicle from them
There's other variations, but as long as you legally can drive and the vehicle is insured, you'll be ok (I hope you can lie well and have no problems going to hell)
I know this post will be a heatscore! |

Well it would work as long as the person "he sold it to" drives it more than he does.
Other wise it loops back to that whole insurance fraud thing. I bought a car once, well a friend gave the car to me, he owed me money. I drove around for a month on his insurance/registration til I went to get it switched to my name... thought I had a bill of sale, but it was messed up... |

Actually mwdguy isn't an idiot, you're the idiot for defending this asshat of a driver. GO_lancer_GO is a meanace on the road and should have had his licence yanked a long time ago. Anybody who can rack up 9 tickets on his abstract doesn't deserve to have the priviledge to be in control of any vehicle. Edmonton drivers are lucky he hasn't caused an accident, because he definately hasn't learnt to follow the laws of the roads.
So lets all stop telling him how to beat the system and consider it a good thing he can't afford to insure any vehicle and has to take ETS to get around. Maybe a few years of public transportation will have an effect on him to learn to drive by the rules.
edit: fix typo. |
|
|
| SilverNeonRacer |
I hope you mean ETS not EPS...
I've had prolly 12 tickets in my 10years of driving, if you don't count photo.... However thre where a number that where BS, like going 65 in a 50, when there's no way with the road conditions I could have been going that fast. There's a cpule tickets where I was doing under 10 over and get ticketed for 15-20 over.... I just didn't both fighting them.. never really made a difference...
If you wanna count photo radar, I paid for one of those vans with 15km over tickets...
Does that make me a bad driver... no, Ironically going faster made me a better driver... before you flame let me explain.... it has to do with attention to what I'm doing. I'm pretty sure I'm a little A.D.D. and a little dyslexic, I'm pretty sure to the point where if I went to a doc they would actually diagnose it too. Going that little bit faster helped me concentrate better on driving. Does it make it right no. Would it be a good defense in court - no. And before you all start saying I shouldn't be on the road.. I have the situation under control.
But like somebody else says.. do we know what the tickets are for, no. there could be a couple BS tickets, I mean I got a ticket for doing 79 in a 60, when I know full well I was doing 63(I had cruise on) Just couldn't make it to court to fight it. I got pulled over, cause wellthe cop came out of a lot, and I pulled right and slowed like your supposed to, and instead of going after teh S10 that was actually speeding he pulle d me over. |

LOL the reason you are fucked right now is because you aren't capable of taking responsibility for your own actions. |

Yes I meant ETS not EPS. My typo is now fixed.
12 tickets of 10 years is a average of just over 1 ticket a year. GO_Lancer_GO states he has 9 tickets on his abstract. That's 9 tickets in 3 years. If he keeps up that pace and stays driving that's 30 tickets in 10 years. There is no way you can convince me that he is a safe driver, even if you discount the occasional "BS" ticket. If he gets caught that many times, how many times has he pulled stuff and not gotten caught.
Now I consider myself a good driver. I've been driving for 24 years now. I gotten one speeding ticket in the past 13 years. It's one of those ticket you would call a BS ticket 17 over in a 50 zone. I don't consider that a BS ticket, I was speeding, so I sucked it up and payed the ticket. I have never had an accident that has been my fault. That is an example of good driving for the street.
Now I did my fair share of stupid shit when I was 16-20, but when I managed to rack up 3 tickets on licence I was smart enough to slow down and follow the laws. I grew up and realized that there are laws for a reason, and started to follow them.
BTW your reasoning of ADD as an excuse to speed is jut that an excuse. You are trying to justify what you are doing. I too have ADD and have had it since I can remember, long before they had the fancy name for it. I don't speed, and ADD is not any reason to speed. It's just your way of justifying your driving habits. |

You can not claim you are a good driver while have 9 tickets currently on your abstract (And who knows how many have expired).
Accidents are only one indicator of a poor driving; having your license suspended for too many demerits is another. |

Crap, Ihad a big ol reply typed out and accidentally hit the back button on my mouse.. grrrr..
Anyhow.. I never tried to use ADD to justify my driving habits, it was just something I noticed in retrospect. Drving faster caused me to concentrate more... shoot back then the one day I was "behaving" I was involved in an accident - it was back in 99, and fault has yet to be determined to my knowledge. Even my parent's agreed had I been driving my norm, I probably would have been able to avoid. Now I've been in a couple accidents and thats the only one where there's a chance blame could be laid on me.
I have changed my driving style, and I own up to my issue and limit the type of vehicles I drive. I intentionally buy and drive slower vehicles. Driving my wife's car is fun, but I know if I drive it I'm very likely to get a ticket, so I don't drive it, unless I have to, and then I use cruise as much as safely possible.
Onthe BS side - What I call BS tickets are tickets that are for things I didn't do like doing 63 in a 60 zone and getting written up for 79, when I did 120 on the highway in a 100 zone and I got written up for 120, I was a little cranky i got caught, but I he got me fair and square, so not a BS ticket and I have no issues with that cop... |

its funny how i stated how my tickets were going 20-30 over and u guys seem to stereo-type me as a crazy ass lunatic!!
there jus speeding tickets that accumalated over the years, and for one of u to tell me ur a better driver then me b/c u didnt get caught as much as me is quite interesting...apparently the alberta registry doesnt have a issue w/ me on the road cause I AM STILL LICENSED!
i didnt play the fukin blame game, i know its my bad, i jus think it sucks and that is why i posted it, it ranks high on my list as bad news b/c i enjoy driving.
u can preach all u want about how i should be off the road and blah blah blah, but u didnt see me mention once about how i street race or lane weave or cut turns or drink and drive. So obviously im not a menace to the road, I speed AND NONE OF U CAN SAY U DONT, so if u can tell me u've never went over the speed limit, stfu!
this thread is to help me and give me n e advice to this situation and give ppl a heads up to say "hey this can happen, look out" not for all u old goons to preach about how clean ur record is and how i am some crazy guy that should not be on the road. |

ADD?
Gimme a break; coming from someone who has been diagnosed ADD, I can tell you I think the "disease" is a fucking joke.
How did they test me for ADD? They made me take a bunch of boring tests!
9 tickets in 3 years? That's outrageous.
I have 2 in six years; one photoradar and one laser last summer; 69 in a 50.
Your last vehicle was a heat bag? I know the feeling, yet somehow, I ended up with only one ticket that I surely deserved.
Could it possibly, just possibly, be the way you drive? |

What do you expect? Seriously, look at your situation.
Before us we have a gentlemen who currently has 9 speeding infractions on his driver's abstract. This gentlemen has already had his license suspended at one point for too many demerits. Yet after getting his license back, he got more demerits.
Tell me, is that the sign of a "crazy ass lunatic"? It's either that, or a half-retarded person who doesn't learn their lesson as they keep paying speeding tickets and increasing insurance.
You can tell us all you want you're a good driver, but your driving record says otherwise. You should be able to acknowledge that you have very poor driving habits.
quote: this thread is to help me and give me n e advice to this situation
I think you're only reasonable option is public transit.
If there are times a car is needed you should be able to secure a rental car cheap enough ($20/day + insurance). Weekend specials happen quite often, so $20/day is reasonable and gives you unlimited KM. |

Is there anyone to car pool with?
Perhaps pay a co-worker $200/month to drive you to work. That might enough of an incentive if they are somewhat close by. |

Bullshit! There are thousands of people on the roads that are horrible drivers that have never been directly involved in a collision. Just because you've managed to avoid running into other people for three measly years of driving doesn't mean you're a good driver.
Now look at my mother. 40 years of driving and not a single collision, ticket or infraction. SHE is a good driver. |

That or insurance fraud. Sell the car to a relative with a clean record who is willing to register and insure it for you. I know friends and family that have done this in the past, pretty common actually, but if you get caught then you're really fucked in life. |

Didn't bother to read the whole thread but the way I see it you've got 2 options:
1) Pay for the insurance
2) Walk, bus or carpool
Well I guess that is 4 options.
I guess I can't think of anything supportive to say because I don't feel any sympathy. You knew what you were doing or perhaps didn't know what you were doing. At least you weren't DUI right? ...that is good.
It could be worse. I dunno, maybe talk to POINTS or something and see what they say? |

2nd point> i guess it wouldnt hurt, i dont think they would be able to do n e thing but u know i should jus see...thanks! |

2. i would never drive w/o insurance
3. i never did drive w/o a license
4. i dont drive or smoke
4 reasons of why u should stfu and get out of my thread
1. You speed, and obviously you speed more then a little (10 over won't get you that many tickets), and you'd have to do it on an almost constant basis to get that many tickets. You've had your licence suspended for all your infractions and continued to do it. You blame the car and the system. You claim to be an excellent driver despite that.
Fact: You have a problem and you're in denial.
Fact: That problem, like all problems will eventually catch up to you and unfortunately someone will probably die (known as "oh shit, I guess it could happen to me and I wasn't that godly" syndrome).
Fact: You have an inability to accept responsibility. Oh I know, you've said many times you are accepting it, but then you go on to defend yourself and you aren't crazy despite your speeding, which is what I mean by you have an inability to accept responsibility.
Fact: The above noted facts make you a reckless hoodlum jerk off.
2. Good. Maybe your new rate for the next several years will help rectify you're problem.
3. Also good. Perhaps you should lose your licence again. 5 years sounds like a good number. Maybe by then you will have grown up enough to realize the dangers and hazards you create with speeding and encourage you to slow down once you do get it back. If I ran for office, that's what I'd push for.
4. I don't think smoking causes driving problems, so that's irrelevant.
Fact: Your last 3 points are that you follow the law. Do you want a cookie for that or something? Should that you give you some leeway or exemption from speeding?
Here's some statistics you might find interesting.
More than half of accidents that involve a fatality occur on roads with posted limits over 80 km/hr. Just out of curiousity, since accidents are relatively evenly distributed among speed limits, do you think that maybe....oh....the fact that the higher the speed, the greater the chance there is of a fatality in the chance of an accident?
Frankly, there are people who've been in 7 or 8 accidents who pose LESS of a danger on the road than you do, simply because of the fact that they operate at slower speeds, which while it results in more accidents in their case, it also results in less fatalities. 7 or 8 accidents at high speed would likely result in 3 or 4 of them being fatal. Which means your 1st accident, the 1st time that we have something you would consider as "evidence" you're a bad driver, someone is much more likely to die. Do you need to wait until you kill someone to realize it?
In fact, while alcohol is seen as a major contributing factor in the most accidents, speed is the most commonly seen contributing factor in fatal accidents. Speed, more than anything else, increases your chance of dieing or killing someone in your car.
So don't sit there acting like you're shit doesn't stink and like you're a good driver. Everyone who has or currently does work in risk management has heard the arguments and read the studies on "faster makes me a better driver", and they're all complete bullshit. 100% incorrect.
How about this. I've never driven drunk, I've never driven without a licence, I'd never made child porn, I've never raped anyone. As a hobby I like to hurl sharp knives out my window. So far no one has ever been hit or hurt by them, so it should be ok for me to engage in such a dangerous and illegal activity. Afterall, the fact that I haven't hit anyone is proof I'm good at knife hurling and therefore, it shouldn't be held against me if I decide to post here that I'm going to jail for it and it's unfair.
That paragraph I just wrote is basically what I hear from you. You shouldn't be flamed because you're going to pay the increased rates, pay the fines, not drive when you're licence is suspended, and follow most other driving laws except the one, you're just venting at how terrible your "luck" (though I don't see what luck has to do with it) is.
You know what man? I came here thinking your mom had been diagnosed with cancer, like happened to mine several years ago. Or that she had passed away, which happened to mine. Or that your dad was developing a slew of disease, which also happened to me. Or that you had a heartache at 26, which also happened to me. Or that you had to quit your $150k/yr job because of your health and now had $11 to your name, rent due in 2 weeks and still no job because you don't labour jobs due to your condition (which was largely caused by stress).
In fact, your thread title, and your insistence that this is "up there as bad news if not the worst" is a complete insult to anyone who's ever had to deal with real problems.
Quite frankly, this thread may be the most disappointing and shameful thing I've ever read. Seriously, you should feel like hiding your face for several years after acting the way you are and saying the things you've just sad. It saddens me to think people actually think like you do.

No, "ur" a(n) idiot for defending this "reckless hoodlum jerk off". You don't get tickets for going "a few km over". And if we all speed so excessively, why don't we all have 9 tickets on our licence? If your argument is that accidents are the only factor that determines how crappy a driver someone is, why is it most people have friends are relatives that they're scared driving with who have perfectly clean records? The only "luck" he's had is good look that he hasn't been in a ton of accidents and hasn't killed anyone yet. Plain and simple.
POINTTS! Won't help you after the fact. They're "traffic ticket specialists". You've already plead guilty to all your driving tickets. A lawyer might have some advice, but I have no idea what it would be. You can't appeal traffic tickets. Well, I suppose maybe you could, but what are you going to say? You plead guilty and paid your fines "under duress" and only now that your insurance rate is over $10k/yr are you going to come forward?
Better yet, please, hire a lawyer. By all means. Maybe it'll cost you so much that even if you spent every penny on your car you couldn't afford the new rate thereby taking you off the road and making me feel safer knowing you're no longer on it. |

hey, your they guy going on and on about how shitty having 9 tickets is and how tough it is getting a break on insurance..
this is a public forum, if you didnt want to get flamed you shouldnt have posted about it in the forum.
and from your track record (9 tickets and 11k for insurance) you have a habit of bad decision making......
you basically posted about it looking for sympathy and now your all pissed off because your not getting any.....
ok, here ya go... i got hit with a nice photo radar ticket, i sped through knowing he was there even, 71 in a 50.. my own stupidity i know. but did i go onto a public forum and bitch and whine about it? nope and guess what... i didnt get flamed for it either.... see how this works?
maybe if you like driving so much you could become an example to young people... you could go get some drivers ed, you could go to the track to drive fast, you could do a number of positive things. go to the track and hang with the group there, i'm sure they would be more than willing to make you feel welcome. you could get you foot in the door with some pro racing training!
either way, i wish you the best of luck. i hope you can turn this negative into a positive. |

Seriously, what did you expect when you started this thread?.
Much less why did you even start one if you didn't feel like defending yourself?.
20-30 indicates that yes, that is a bit idiotic. You need to realize that as well.
A bullshit ticket=speeding ticket while clocked at 65 in a 60 zone, that is kinda bs. 80 or 90 in a 60 zone? that's pretty dumb. Think about it. |

As for moving to another province, stay where you are. We're safer that way. And they give out tickets in other places too. |

Hey Terry, sorry to hear about your insurance situation man, that really bites. You have had some really shity luck in the past year or so. I hope everything turns for the better from now on. Good luck.
Wow people are so quick to open their mouth here and judge someone base on some information in a post. You call him names and say that he's retarted and that makes you all better than him, there are some very imature responses here. How can you judge someone you don't even know?:dunno:
I'm not defending the tickets that he got, that's another issue, but are 9 tickets in 3 years really that hard to imagine. 3 tickets per year is mind blowing and makes someone a very bad person? I personally have been driving for 7 years and only this past summer I got 4 ticket within one month, 2 of which were just BS tint and exhaust tickets. So am I a bad person set out to kill someone with my car too.:dunno:
The point is, don't judge someone unless you know someone first.

good question,
well apparently by april 2008 i will have 4 tickets on my abstract.
apparently 1-2 tickets is the max, they said n e thing under 5 u can remain on the policy BUT 5 or greater u are considered a high risk driver.
2 the best of my knowledge i believe insurance quotes are based on partly abstract and some history, such as
"how long have u been continuously insured"
"how long have u had ur licensed"
"have u made any claims within the last x years"
those sorta things.... |

so i got news that is pretty much ranks as one of the shittest news I could possibly get....
Hi Go_Lancer_Go,
That is a bit of a bind you are in. You do not have many options.
As presented you can take ETS, get a motorcycle, sell your car.
If it were me, I would analyze the following two options.
1) Keep the car, pay the premiums untill the demerits (sp) start to fall off. I am not sure when they will, but when they drop, so will your insurance. You also need to factor in the cost of maintenance if applicable, fuel, oil and car payments.
2) Sell the car, purchase a pre-owned non-insurance heat score vehicle and sell it when the premiums start to drop and your demerits are lower. This will put you in a higher age bracket and hopefully drop your rates. I would consider this option and look at the other concequences. A) Cost of Car payments if applicable, B) Fuel, Oil, C) Maintainence. Older vehciles may require more maintainence than newer ones. Once you factor in those costs, it may or may not be better to keep your newer car. With this option, if it is not financed, or it is not taken as collateral against a loan, you can have PLPD to drop your rates. You get nailed for all the other perils such as collision if they are added on.
Hope this helps,
Mike |

2 of your tickets are not moving violations and won't go on your abstract. If you get 3 moving violations a year, then yep that's a dangerous driver. If I were an insurance company, I'd consider someone getting 3 moving violations a year high risk. |

Hope this helps,
Mike
Thank u mike for ur suggestions, I truly appreciate it, its good food for thought :) |

Uh yeah he would, i would rather deal with a company that doesn't deal with high risk drivers. As would most drivers with clean abstracts
It takes more than two people and with a bit more time spent on thinking up the idea, but good luck wish you all the best  |
