Pics of your Summer Rides and what they are doing this winter. - Click HERE for Original Thread

GOT BOOST
Hi Everyone,

While removing my engine with help from Marc (Marcenator) this afternoon, I had wondered what the state of everyones summer rides were.

I have taken a few pics of Jezzebel (my Supra) in her state of vunerability.

Lets see what you have and all of its glory or lack there of.

Enjoy,

Mike

Invalid Zero
I just got mine buttoned up and running again this saturday. I'll post pics when I get home.

boarderfatty

ChromeDragon
Mine is driving me to and from work and loving it ... even if it tells you otherwise. Damn ungrateful car!

STiPWR
GotBoost, your supposed to drain your tranny/motor oil before you pull it

fugumerkur
Ive got my Mustang that may end up being my summer car so I can do some major work to the merkur

Mustang is gettin a 2.3L Turbo

The Merkur. STill a daily driver but is waiting on a Fuel pressure regulator , boost controller and Turbo coupe engine management for the better fuel curves.

Still a daily driver

RBS14.5
Days are starting to get longer. That means summer is getting closer! I can't wait..

Here's me Bitch!!

Hi STiPWR,

Ahh.... that is the trick.

I drained the oil and most of the coolant before we started to dissasemble the car. The big puddle and floor dry was a result of a large quantity coolant pouring out upon draining, then the rest of it when the back end was jacked up.

The boots on the shifter are toast so I may order a short throw shifter to go along with my other assorted goodies that will be intalled. :D

I'll take a picture of mine when I get the ambition to finish everything off. :)

It might be up for the Motorshow, though.

LeadSled
Here's the last pic I took before pulling the slant-6. Its now getting some body work done, a low intrusion 6 pt cage and shot in primer. Now I'm working on putting the money together to build the engine/tranny. With university its hard to get the cash together to get it done quickly, it definately won't be on the road this summer unless I win the lottery.

I hope to have it on the road by summer 2008. I'm going for the pro-touring trend, like this but a lower ride height and a performance wheel/tire package that handles . They are nice and light too, weight with the new coilover front susp/ 3 link rear and 6.4L modern Hemi will be around 2900lbs including a full interior and seating for 4.

my summer car:

and well, the jeep was off the road this winter so we had to use the poor summer car for winter beater duties:

and this is what happened. (just last week actually):

so i'll be stripping this car down to the bare shell and the good parts will be going into this car:

i have a brand new set of 16X6 polished chrome 07 chevy cobalt wheels for it:

"very shiny, very sparkly shiny, i'm an excellent driver"

a rebuilt set of bike carbs:

^^taken before i rebuilt them, god are bike carbs a pain to put together!!

some turbo out of an audi or something, my hubby is building a ramhorn manifold and intake plenumfor it, i have all my gauges, RR FPR, new fuel pump (holley i think). and i have all my basecoat/candy dyes/pearls/effects powders and clear already. R-M Carrizma Copper with house of kolor pearls, Alsco effects powders, all of it Copper in colour.

i know it may not be your cup of tea, but i really like these older civics. i just need to get over this stupid flu/cold so i can get out there and start stripping down the "Honali" (my wrecked 84)

It's always a good idea to keep a car up on jackstands if it is going to sit for several months. It takes the load off the suspension, wheel bearings, etc.:)

You couldn't be more wrong. It's terrible for the suspension to not be under load, since the shocks sit there topped out for months.

It should be left on all four wheels; and his car is.

My car has been pretty much been on jack stands for the past 3 years. I guess if you consider a shell a car.

the suspension is built to suport the load of the wheels. and the frame is not designed to have the car rest on it for months at a time. i can't say for 100% but i have heard that you can cause some frame distortion from leaving the car on stands.

I beg to differ. We store several 60's muscle cars and they are always stored with the wheels 2" off the ground. The cars sit like they were new from the factory when they go to shows and such. It keeps springs from sagging, etc....especially on heavier cars. We had a 64 Impala that sat in a heated indoor garage for 20 years and all the wheel bearings/tires were slightly deformed from sitting for so long. Everything had to be replaced.

I always put my NSX up on stands for the winters and it never hurt a thing. You just have to use longer supports like 12" 2x4's to spread the load across the frame if it's a concern for you.

Godzilla
so what exactly do you consider to be so bad about letting it sit on its wheels, apart from your suspension and wheel bearing explanation of wich i call :bs:

Just that. I am drawing on personal experience...you have your own opinion. We have had no issues or problems by doing it our way....with new and old cars. I see it as an ounce of prevention because I have had bearing problems before.

It's in my sig. And right now, she's in storage in town (Antigonish) waiting for May, when every speck of salt is gone for the year.

There is a divided inlet on the turbo so to keep the runners truely divided 2 wastegates were used. This will also help boost creep in lower boost applications.

I have no digitals of it only regular prints....framed on my wall. I sold it to a dentist in Lac La Biche. It is red with charcoal 95 NSX rims. He drives it down to Edmonton occasionally. I have seen it on Whyte a couple times.

Well the car was parked with 60,000 miles with no issues. After sitting so long it needed to be towed because the engine had not been started in 15 years or driven in 20. When we went to tow it we found the bearing problems from the extended sitting time.

ok thats where i see a huge difference that might necessitate jacks. my car is parked for 6 months a year, not 20 years. for winter parking though i can't see bearings being an issue.

The salt is in the moisture in the air. Even having your car sitting inside a garage will not completely prevent rust! It's part of living in that area. I used to see brand new cars with rust on the nuts and bolts...crazy!

Jamie

I know, I'm just playing around with the whole flying thing. (I thought you'd pick up on that)

It's an Alberta car, so it has a fairly good head start on staying rust free. There are a lot of beautiful old cars in this part of Canada. It just takes some extra care to keep it that way. And no, that doesn't mean oiling the doors. (it's a fairly common thing to see grime around the doors that people slather with motor oil in the winter..... no joke)

Yea I did get it :p I was just razin ya lol

When I was in SJ, I had my car Rust Checked every year. It's helps somewhat, but still doesn't really protect the underside of the car that well.

you might have to stop by sometime then. i can't say for 100% but i believe Blaine has found employment elsewhere and i personally don't predict that he will return to Subracing. Please don't take this statement as a matter of fact because it is only my humble opinion and im just the new guy there.
