I can't figure it out for the life of me.
What's the thing they are building on the corner of 153ave/Manning Drive? They had all sorts of heavy equipment there all winter doing whatever it is they are doing with those pieces of steel.
From the shape of things I can't even imagine what they are building that justifies the price tag (Which much be astronomical, as there always seems to be guys working on it in the daytime). |

| I was working on houses just north of there for a while, and wondered the same thing, no idea personally, and I didn't see any signs around to indicate what it might be. |

Yea, the thing looks huge, I was wondering the same thing.
Doesn't look like a apartment building... I was gunna stop by and ask them. |

| Overpass to where? :dunno: I drive by it every day. One day I'm going to pull over and ask. |

| I was told it's an overpass. I'm thinking they're putting it in because of the extra volume of traffic when the Henday is expanded. |

The sheet piling @ the corner of 153ave and Manning is for the interchange, 153 will cross over Manning.
Eliminating those lights at 153ave is going to be sweet!! |

153rd ave will pass over Manning Southband and merge onto Manning northbound?
Wow - I didn't think they'd be putting in any money for the northside, they seem so focussed on the southside. |

153rd ave will pass over Manning NB and SB to access the land to the East.
the City is growing bigtime in the Northside, Manning is a very busy highway now-a-days directing alot of traffic in and out of Sturgeon County and Fort Sask. |

| When I first saw it I thought it was a concrete mould, then they started hammering it into the ground and I just gave up guessing what the hell it was. If its an overpass Im wondering how exactly that would all merge and what not. |

So the future plans are to develop the land in the east, where it currently appears to be just farmland?
Since you seem to know a bit about this, how does the hammering of the metal into the ground play a role in creating an overpass? Is it used to create a form for the big pillars? |

| I also originally heard it was for an overpass, but I've recently heard that its actually for some sort of water reservoir. The overpass would be nice though. |

WTF do we need water reservoirs for? This isn't 1928. |

becasue any city requires them, especially a growing one. Does the year of a city mean that suddenly we don't need water reservoirs? Last summer we almost ran out and were told don't water our lawns or you could be fined.
However, hopefully it is an overpass. that would be nice in that area. |

| Hahaha, I know there are water reservoirs. I was meaning the huge water towers, which is what it sounded like these guys were referring to. I still haven't seen what they're talking about. The main reason they had them way up in the air in the past was just so they could use gravity to create water pressure. Obviously now we have generator systems that render this idea pointless. |

| Watching them build all the overpasses out here in the westend. they seem to put up the molds then pound 30' (approx) i beams into the ground. I think that is to give the over pass strength and so it doesn't move under the heavy traffic. I have watched them do this on all three overpasses around my place. Might be a way to cut back on how much concrete you would need, kinda like building a deck with piles. I have done work for the city and have gone to all the water reservoirs in the city. The are all over the place. all you see on the surface is a large grass park and a small epcor building off to the side. They make parks over them as the tanks can't handle any weight over them so they make parks over them. |

| Yeah, there are a couple not far from my place here. |

| I thought they were preventing erosion due to the man made lake...like in New Orleans with the levys. But they are taking way to freaking long. Overpass sounds good. |

| I drive right by there all the time, I promise, the next time I will take the time to pull over and ask somebody! |

too late for that... the piles are all in the ground.
Some people are probably thinking, "wtf is going on??"

| Maybe its some sort of Underground Adult Superstore. |

| Its is going to be an underground tunnel that will be used for drainage. The boring machine will be dropped in once the hole is deep enough. Becuase of the high river valley, underground drainage lines need to be very deep to properly drain. Although the overpass would be cooler!!!:blue: |

nice... is this confirmed?
that does make sense considering the HUGE difference in ground elevation in Brintnell and the land on the East side of Manning.
So they are digging a hole to directionally drill the Storm pipe underneath Manning?
I had initially said "Overpass" because I have been part of the planning for the interchange at that exact location. But I didnt think the interchange would start this soon. But soon enough, we will see an interchange there. |

I live right by there (can see it out my window) and about 3 weeks before they started this project we recieved notice from the city of edmonton planning department stating that it is for the overpass over manning that will go through the farmers field and connect to 153 avenue on the other side again it was required that they do the work now though to finish the widening of 153 ave from manning to 50 street to 4 lanes from 2 lanes that is confirmed from city of edmontons planning department |
