Well another HUGE lottery has been won in the United States. This time it was a $254 Million dollar prize won by a 84 year old man.
These things really piss me off. There are so many starving, homeless people here in North America....and old people are winning a 1/4 of a BILLION dollars. Something is wrong with this picture.

| Out of that he'll get half if he's lucky. US lottery taxes FTL. Lottery FTL also. |

| I know A LOT is tax, but it's still ridiculous. |

Its a LOTTERY. Everyone who buys a ticket has equal chances of winning. Just because the guy's 84 years old doesn't make him any less entitled to the money.
:dunno:
Besides, that guy is surely going to get harassed daily on his doorstep by various charities for several months at least. |

Yea but the whole concept of a Lottery is flawed. It's funny how quick people will spend money (even if it's just a little bit) to have a chance to better themselves, but how many would do the same to help others?
Think what $5 a person could do for less fortunate people?
In my opinion, it should be regulated or something. I mean, you don't NEED 1/4 of a Billion dollars. Why not put a say $25 Million dollar cap on it, and give all the rest of the money to more useful resources?

Cause the way a lottery works, the more people that buy the larger the jackpot gets. And the larger the jackpot the more people that buy. By reducing the jackpot size much fewer people would buy. |

Is this coming from a guy who wants to buy a Viper?
Why not, instead of getting the Viper, get a Mustang and donate the other $20,000? |

| ok so he won the lottery good for him. now if the fucking less fortunate people would go and get an education then they wouldnt be less fortunate and could spend $5 on a lotto ticket |

People are really good at making money, or telling others how to spend it. But when it comes to 'helping'/donating, not so good.
The perfect case in point, the second richest guy in the world is a GENIUS. But, when it comes to philanthropy, he gave all his cash to the FIRST richest guy.
Genius move. |

Just curious, do you donate to any foundations on a monthly basis or for that matter volunteer at any? if not than bitching about people pissing their money away on themselves is hypocritical of yourself. |

Actually, I do donate money. I donate to World Vision and also give to some local charities. Didn't see that coming did you? ;)
And for the comment about this coming from a guy who wants a Viper...yea so what that I want a Viper?
You don't see the difference between working your ass off for something you want and winning hundreds of Millions? I work long ass days, moved 5,000km away from home and work a very labour intensive job to be able to afford the things I want. But guess what? I help out others when I can too. There are a lot of people a hell of a lot worse off than me, so I try and help.
I don't see anything wrong with a Lottery, but when it gets to an amount like a 1/4 of a Billion...thats just insane and imo stupid. I understand that the higher the lotto is, the more people will buy tickets, etc etc. But it doesn't change the fact that it's wrong.
I know this is a very opinionated subject and I respect everyone's opinion. It's just something that really bothers me when I see.

I prefer to allow people the freedom to do what they want with their money; whether they earned it through working or it was handed to them :) |

Probably encourage them to hunt down other less fortunate people and steal their money... crack aint cheap and neither is anything else. :dunno:
Setting up programs to get people off the street to clothe, feed and employ those who want to do better would be much more effective than just giving it to all less fortunate.
if only there was some way to tax these funds from their winnings |

We have a bunch of Philosophers and car tuners!
well speaking of donation.
you guys all know I drive a ford, so to make this ford with its half v8 go faster to beat out Guardrailing SRT4 s with ass hats.
All members should donate 5 dollars to me so I can fix my ford and have an import that isn't your traditional japanese import at the track on a friday.
Then when my car is done, I will donate 5 dollars to the next asshat.!
we keep donating 5 dollars around in circles and we'll all have bought ourselves a ticket into this lottery of car parts.
so 254million can kiss my ass and i'll accept Paypal!

| 125 Million or something close to that amount should go straight back to the government. Its' the reason they set up lotteries, so they can tax the stupid, and give to the needy. |

| My questions is why is it my problem if other people are poor / needy / hungry? Why is it people think we should give money to other people when we were the ones that earned it. Even if it was a lottery. You took a chance with your money that you worked for and won more money. You think if you lose the needy are going to help with your loses? And by giving money to all these needy people like bums on the street is just supporting what they are doing, so it encourages them. Maybe if we stoped giving them handouts they might smarten up and do something about it. |

What about the 'bums' that have mental problems? Or can't cope with society?
It happens to the most normal of people. I'll tell you a story about a Montana man ('Ben'), he passed away at 84. When he was a younger man, he had a family, house, and a baby girl.
His girl passed away when he was at the prime of his life (career, family etc), and it caused a schism in his psyche. He wandered all over the US but he would always come back on her birthday and clean up her grave and leave her flowers.
He took handouts, and he begged because he couldn't, mentally comprehend how the universe worked anymore.
So there you go, some of those 'bum's simply don't have a choice, they don't want anything, but to just exist. |
|
|
| P_D |
| yea yea yea, most of the "bums" are ppl who find it easier to sort though garbage for cans and shit insted of useing that time to better them self. for christ sake there are more that 100,000 jobs in alberta for ppl with little or no education yet they sit there and ask me for my money that i earned by working my ass of in school for. well fuck them and thier change hat |

Are you serious?
People that think like you are the one's that cause this problem. Do you think I'm talking about alcoholic bums that dug themselves in a hole? It goes WAY beyond that.
What do you have to say about children that are born into poverty and have drug attacks for parents? What about all the children infected with HIV and starving in Africa? There are a lot of people that are less fortunate, and they have no control over it at all.
World hunger is a huge problem and if people weren't so greedy, it could be resolved almost overnight.

People LIKE to think they are self-made. That hard work and all that bullshit will put you to the top. Think again. You're just lucky you were born here.
Trust me, if you were born where 2/3rds of the people were UNLUCKILY born, no amount of hard work would help you out, you'd just be one of the have nots. |

Yes I am very serious. It is not my problem those people were born like that. Yes sure I was lucky I was born in Canada. I am going to live life for myself and nobody else. I will chose who to care for, and I chose not to care for anyone I don't know. (I am talking about donating and what not, not like some one get hurts in an accident and I just drive away. And I have helped complete strangers before with problems that just needed an extra hand.)
The whole world hunger thing will never be resolved. Neither will the war on drugs or the war on terrorism. So instead of worrying about these things every day I just worry about my own problems. Sure you can say I am a complete asshole but that's your opinion and my opinion is that everyone else problems are not mine.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion of things. I just put mine out there like everyone else. |

You are completely intitled to your opinion, and I respect that as your opinion.
All I can say to you my friend....Karma is a bitch ;)
Hopefully you don't get a horrible disease and for some reason the health system turns to thinking like you and only help themselves. lol
Good luck,
