I need your guy's opinion
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
IN late April, early May I plan on making a step into returning to autobody and starting a career.
THe thing that is bugging me is that I want to present myself as very professional and my Snap on rep has offered me a Tool box.
its a rolling cabinet, I don't have the dimensions yet but its above waste height and is under a meter wide. Used of course, I can't quite afford brand new!
1500.00 is what he is offering for it and thats 500.00 down and 200 a month.
Am I outta my mind!
I really do owe myself the Confidence and professional appeal of having a good collection of Snap on Tools.
This is a career step and having the Tools is just as important as having the Knowledge.
Thank you and please keep it respectful.~~~~ |

You're saying it's a fully stocked toolbox, complete with tools, and not just a box, right? |

| NOpe, just the rolling box. With warranty though, the lifetime stuff. |

that is about on par for a snap on tool box
they are mad cash
I would never buy snap on tools though as you can buy craftsman with a lifetime no hassle warrentee and it is held in high regard with alot of mechanics.
I have a well stocked tool case and snap on is really only a part of it for the unique few tools that i have needed. |

| Quite frankly, with Snap On you're paying a 300 per cent markup just for the name. There are plenty of cheaper tools that are just as good, if not better. You can buy a brand new comparable Craftsman toolbox with a whole lot left over to fill it with tools. |

and how!! going with Snap-on tools is silly if they are only for your use. places like NAIT autobody use snap-on because they give the school an unbeatable deal and if any tool break the snap-on rep is there like jonny-on-the-spot to replace them.
are you ticketed yet? or are you still going through school? which school are you going to for your ticket? if your enrolled in the NAIT autobody program you should have a chat with Chris the tool crib guy about this. mind you he would tell you the same thing everyone else here has..... buy Craftsman.
good luck in your new career!!! there is always lots of work for autobody guys in this city. |

| Tools and tool boxes are much different. Snap on tools, naw, just buy craftsman, as far as boxes is concerned the snap on ones are very high quality. My friend is a welder and builds semi truck trailers for a living and he just spent around 5000 on a toolbox so 1500 isnt even that out there. Although his is a huge cabinet but still. |

+1 for Craftsman/Mastercraft.
They have lifetime warranty but you have to take them into the store, they don't come to the door.
I purchased a mastercraft mechanics tool set when they were on sale 2 years ago for half price!. It pisses me off now that the kits come with laser cut foam tray inserts!.
Costco has a really decent rolling toolbox for under $700 I believe.
Professionalism is one thing, but looking half decent and being able to ace the jobs you get are another ;) |

| When my father owned his shop there was not a single Snap On box in the entire place. |

| I don't think it really matters what kind of tools you have because the quality of your actual work will say 1000x more about you than the name on your torque wrench. |

Get the Snap on box, then you'll never say I wish........
If you looking for work PM me. My boss has a private collection and has about 15 vehicles to finish. The only bad thing is that he has a Ford truck fetish. Not all bad really, some have been quite fun. Flatheads with 3 carbs, a 56 with hot hot Cleveland, a 86 with a 429 and the list goes on. |

Thats the thing with snap on, I was flippin through my personal catalogue at work and found what I believe is the box. Now the peices you can add on , means I probalby won't out grow this box. I can add to it or get a hefty trade in that will be damn near what I paid for it, hell I could probably sell it for more than I pay for it!!
Thing is, I don't know everything about body work, given a proper amount of time I feel I could restore a car. I know where to look for parts and how to assemble and disassemble a car (give or take for what car it is!!)
Only thing stopping me from being in an autobody shop is the pay I get in industrial and I have profit share coming to me in less than 3 months , (expecting near 3000.00 before taxes) < thats where I will be buying the tools to fill it, if I havn't bought them before them.
I will need a body shop to work in around May , and im hoping for at least a minimum of 14 an hour. I expect to earn my keep and that won't be hard.!
I am more than happy to help anyone on here with body work, dents, panel repair panel installation and so on, its just that I don't have the space to do it in! When I painted those above vehicles, thats all my tools used to do it.! I carted them home in Cardboard boxes. I wasn't too pleased.
I will most likely get a glance at this box early next week, if I hasn't sold it by then, (told him I wasn't sure yet) so if its still there, im going to take it. Can't get a better deal than this in my opinion. |

So this is the tool box.
Snap on catalogue
Full price is a hefty 3159.99 so at 1500 on payments is a bargain, this way I don't have to spend 3000 later on for the same thing! |
