Update on No pop for 1 year Resolution - Click HERE for Original Thread

fugumerkur
I know alot of people had a good amount of interest in this and many actually followed and cut pop from their daily routine permanently.

This is the follow up to see how everyone is doing.

and Post what you drink now! Be honest...

I have not had a sip of pop since new years eve. I have been drinking more water. and lately when its cold I will drink hot chocolate at work ( I don't drink coffee.)
My other main source of Flourishment is Cranberry juice!

Cran cocktail (only Ocean spray, no minute maid Bleh)

Cran Grape and Straight up Cranberry.! THe people at work must thing I am goin for a pee test or something.

Plenty of Orange juice and Too much Chocolate milk.

Within the past 2 weeks, I have been buying the litre jugs of Orange Juice from London Drugs and drinking those instead of pop. Its cheaper and better for you.

BananaBoy
Check out the label of those jugs of 'juice', sometimes The have just and much sugar as pop.

Try True Blue Bleuberry juice. It's really tasty and it's suppost to be very good for you. Get it at Save-On.

I picked a seltzer bottle while ago to make cocktails. It uses a CO2 canister and water to make soda the old fasioned way. Try mixing it any juice, it's really good.

where can i pick up a seltzer bottle at normally?

fugumerkur
I'll keep that in mind about the Carbonated juice!

When I am grabbing juice though, its gotta have one of those Heart smart labels or the equivalent. I know there are some Juices out there I grab in a pinch that probably have the Sugar equivalent of Pop but its quite hard to avoid when your not thinking about it.
Its a very difficult mindset to get rid of, Its just as easy to grab a water or milk but that juice just tastes better.!
They have us by the balls as consumers.
Just imagine all the people out their with weaker minds, the ones that believe most of the stuff they see on TV.

BananaBoy
I got mine from a restaurant supply store but you should be able to get them at places like Home Outfitters or those kitchen gadget places in the malls.

Most models also let you use it to make whip cream as well. the only dif to use NO2 for whip cream and a CO2 for soda.

One more thing, you can buy the flavored syrup from Second Cup and make your own Italian sodas. These are really good in the summer.

It's not as fizzy as the stuff from the can but I find it taste better, more refreshing, because it doesnt have that salty metalic taste to it.

That Ocean Spray Cran Grape Is Fucking DE-LISH!

isn't there as much sugar in non-natural (i.e. not fresh / concentrate / etc) juices as there is pop?

In non-natural/non-concentrate yes. They would probably be almost as bad for you as pop.

mwdguy
All i have drank since Dec 27th is water and a couple glasses of skim milk at meal times.

So far, dropped about 20 lbs by eliminating pop, fast food, and junk food.

McFly
haha the hot chocolate is just as bad as the pop;)

liveforspd
i've been drinking alot of bottled water close to 12 bottles a day and ive shed like 15 lbs

chris f
Its the refined sugar in pop thats bad for you, if you look at the ingredients in juice if there is no sugar added then its natural and not bad for you. The reason there is so much sugar in pop is because when you carbonate somthing its very hard to taste its sweetness, so they cram more sugar in it. thats wjy flat pop is so sweet.

superpirate25
You should swap the hot chocolate for tea if you want a hot drink. Check out one of the tea shops, they have lots of good stuff.

Wolfdio
Ive been drinking a lot of water recently, mostly that bottled water with a "spalsh" of flavouring... it sucks but its better than nothing:dunno:

Alberta_Daytona
no pop lol, impossible...I drink 5-15 cans of pop a day for the past 5 years.

WorkInProgress
Good luck everyone!

BananaBoy
Holy shit, 5-15 cans. A can of coke is 150 cals. The average guy is suppost to take about 2000 cals a day. Man, smoking a pack a day is heathier than that. Wow.

Anyways, there plenty of stuff to drink other than pop, water and orange juice.

Hit up a ethnic store, pick out a few bottles of juice. The stranger the lable the better. :D

As some people said, try tea, hit up the good tea dealer like Cargo and James and try some random flavors. Chill the left overs to make ice tea, it far better than that lipton in a bottle crap.

Milk is great for you.

Toss in some fresh/frozen fruit and ice and make smothies.

Heck, try soy, not the stupid new stuff, the authentic asian stuff, it can be drank hot or cold.

What about soup? In asia they sell broth in a can, it's super refeshing on a cold day.

Even coffee is better that pop. What the hell, even beer is better for you than pop.

As for me, I can't really give up pop. I used to drink a can a day in high school. Noadays, I always have a can of Coke stashed behind the beer but case lasts me almost a year.

Good luck to the people that are quiting.

Alberta_Daytona
well I would drink 5-15 beers a day, but that wont work so well with the random drug testing lol.

I picked up a bottle of this stuff, and I must say, this tops the list of best tasting juice I have ever had. I have dropped the Orange Juice and picked up more bottles of this stuff. Thumbs up for Ocean Spray Cranberry Juice.

Hot Water: Once I saw a co-worker drink plain hot water in the lunch room. I thought that was weird! Since I was too cheap to buy a real refreshment I tried it and now I've been drinking it everyday for 7 years. I saved a lot in tea bags and no tea stained cups to wash! :)

V8 Tomato Juice: I used to be hooked on V8 for but too expensive now, I think Costco sells them at $17 (used to be $13) for a flat of 24 cans.

OceanSpray Cran: Last time I was at Sobey's they had tons of $1 off coupons on the shelf! I hate those giant jugs! Sticky cranberry juice spilling all over the place! What do people think of the lighter flavours? I think they have 1/2 the calories (90?) but are you robbed of more vitamins?

Coke Zero: Some how I got hooked on Coke 2 years ago. It doesn't even taste that good. I drink 1 can a day. I switched to C2 then Zero when they came out. Not sure if it's healthier, probably the same crap.

fugumerkur
oh man the Light flavours can lick my left nut!
The stuff burned my throat!

aspertame or whatever they put in it! THough if its 100% juice the sugars in it are good for you thus I beleive they would be good calories.

when it is that good of a juice you can't worry about calories, if so , just drink a couple extra cups of water!

Right now I have Cran Strawberry from oceanspray. I havn't tried it but I bet its fuck'n Crantastic!

fredster102
lol funny thing is just before i read this thread i was drinking a root beer, and its 7 45 in the morning!, i usually dont drink pop i stopped for about a week and this was my first , i feel like shit about it now haha, but ya i do feel better when i do drink just water or orange juice

ReasonOne
I gave up pop when I went to Edmonton on business for 2 weeks at the beginning of February. It's not that I have been actively avoiding drinking soda..... it's just that I haven't had the time to refill my supply when I got back from my trip.

Mostly it's been water, pure orange juice, pure apple juice and on the odd occaison.... iced tea. So far I've lost about 8-9 lbs without even realizing it.

I'm going back to the gym again and I have a long way to go (I want to lose 100 lbs.), but drinking the right stuff definitely helps.

dance_of_curse
if you really need the pop go to planet organic near sam wok on whyte ave. they have natural/organic pops...and they are so much better then others some are cheaper some are more expensive. i think it was like $12 for 24 or something:) well a while ago

gotboost5
Holy shit a lot of dudes here are trying to lose weight!!
Whos trying to gain and how do you go about doing that

SUPRABOYZ
I' ve also stop drinking pop for the last 2 months. I feel great, I used to get heart burn bad at night. Not anymore. I've done some weight reduction on myself as well. It all adds up when you flying down the track. Live life 1/4 mile at a time. lol

Just add water to he normal juice. I've done that all my life, I find bottled/canned ect juice far to sweet.

Cutting out (or reducing) pop is not really about losing wieght, it about cutting out the sugar. But pop is often tied to unheathy eating like chocolate bars and fast food.

fugumerkur
I had a dream last night that I was so thirsty that I just grabbed this cup (fast food restaurant kind) and consumed the contents fast!. After it was gone the taste set in, it was the aw fuck/oh shit realizing I drank a thing of Coke.

Then I woke up being thirsty and was craving Cola.. It was wierd..

2ndgenlude

Sorry to say, milk is not "great" for you. On the contrary. I wont go into details here but suffice to say, you should research that fact and maybe try getting milk out of your diet and then see how you feel. Thank me later. Cow milk is for calves. Get your calcium and vitamin D from veggies like broccoli ect.
Cheers.

Its one of those in moderation things, not something you should switch to. Doesn't anyone remember what happened to Santa a couple years ago? it was posted on a billboard by some fruity organization... There was a bar-b que under it...
