| Damn that's a porker, but good on pontiac for responding to consumer demands instead of trying to tell people what they want. Seems like a low price competitor to the G35. |

| No doubt. I think taking the brand to all RWD/AWD is the best idea they've had in 30 years. (The G6 and Pursuit are to be short lived) |

| I would definitely consider one as a larger family sedan in the future if it actually ends up as good as it looks. |

| I just noticed the manual tranny, and it appears to be a six speed (which would make perfect sense). |

Well it would seem that GM has finally realized they can't come up with a good car of their own, so they're bringing in and rebadging some pretty decent cars :p
first it was the Opel GT (saturn sky / pontiac solstice) then the opel Astra (saturn Aura) and now this, which is a rebadged Holden Commodore. Saturn is also bringing in the Opel Astra Hatchback as.. the Saturn Astra.

Honestly I think its a good thing, in GM's current financial state, they can't afford to be developing new cars, so its a good idea to be selling cars that are already proven successful platforms.
I actually quite like the looks of this, which is a first since I generally hate the looks of anything pontiac, so its nice to see them not ruining the design of a car when they bring it in. Its a solid platform, and the powertrain is pretty good too, good 6 spd manual tranny and the L76 has a pretty good amount of power stock.
Rumour has it that theres going to be G8 GXP with the next in the series of LSx engines, the LS3, which will also be put in the new Camaro and also the C6 apparently. Should move pretty good for a heavy sedan. |

I like it  . It would be a sweet family car.
Isn't pontiac having a new GTO to go with the new camaro? |

Seems like more of a competitor to the LX cars than the G35 to me :dunno:
And a great one at that, the car will haul ass with that L76.. I believe it is iron block unlike the LS2 but I'm not sure, and I think it has vvt. Should be a real performer.
Now if only Ford would see the light... dump that expensive ass OHC modular engine and get on board with a low cost, modern cam in block like GM and Chrysler with VVT and cylinder deactivation. Then swtich over to RWD/AWD on the fullsize and midsizes. |

Expensive-ass modular engine? Bitch please. I'll go on a rant after I have a shower. |

That doesn't make much sense, since Holden has been GM since their first car rolled off the line.
Otherwise, I agree with you on most points.
Toyota has done this very thing, but for the life of me, I can't think of why.

The thing about it being a straight up Holden (which was the GTO as well) shouldn't surprise anyone, since GM has been telling everyone in press releases for the past year or more about these Australian imports. We knew it was happening when the first Camaro concept lost its sheet. We were told soon after that it would share the platform used to build us the next Impala and Grand Prix (G8). And then later told of a Camaro sibling for Pontiac coming as well (GTO reprise).
I just wish Ford would follow suit and bring us that spanky 4.0L DOHC Intercooled Turbo I6 that has been puting their even heavier Falcons in the 11's at ease (Barra 240t). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_B...gine#Barra_240T
That SS 'V' badge looks a lot like the Caddy V badge.

where did u hear this about the opel gt? from anything i've read it was a complete new build by gm. on the same type of chassis that the vette is on. Bob Lutz pushed and pushed to get that car into production.
but maybe what i've read is wrong..? :dunno: |

You're correct, I had it turned around in my mind somehow. GM actually managed to make a great car with the solstice / sky, and its the opel thats actually a rebadged sky redline, since its the turbo version.
The chassis was completely new, but GM raided the parts bin on the sky and solstice, i.e. diff from the CTS, running lights from an envoy or something, etc. good idea actually, since using strong mechanical components makes a mod friendly platform, people are swapping in LSx engines, and it can handle it. |

| Looks nice. GM for not even attempting to build cars. |

It costs Ford more to build them than the pushrod engines and it costs us more to mod them especially if you want to stay N/A.
And their 5.0L cammer crate costs $15k; thats a lot of cash for 420hp. You can buy the new 392 crate Hemi for the same price and it makes 560hp (rated at 510hp) or the LS7 with 520hp for around $16k.
I've also read that the 5.7L Hemi and 6.0L LQ4 engines cost 30% less to build than it costs Ford to produce the 3V 5.4L Triton.
They've started their 6.2L V8 project back up though, it should be a pretty badass engine. |
