I've been contemplating installing a carbon fibre hood on my daily driver. Does anyone currently or in the past, run a carbon fibre hood through the winter? Are there any duability issues I should be aware off.
This is the hood I'm looking at:

Sorry for the big pic. |

| I ran one all last year no problems. Careful when closing it, as it is brittle. |

Will it be worse than it is with paint/steel hood? |

Well, you would be painting it anyway right? You weren't thinking of leaving that ugly bare carbon fiber look, were you? |

Actually no, not this time.
I strongly detest the look of carbon fiber on exterior body panels. I understand the functionality of a strong light-weight material, when used for that purpose, but I do NOT consider it a cosmetic enhancement. Its quite ugly IMO and I think it makes cars look like crap when people leave it unpainted. |

Unfortunately resale of a painted carbon fiber hood would be brutal since most people would want it unpainted. |

| Well thanks for your input guys. I'm not buying it to sell it, and I don't plan on painting it. don't get me wrong it's all good info but I'm looking at the issues of running it in winter. Any input or experience on that topic? |

Brittle? WTF are you talking about jeff. lol. I know occasionally the latch can crack if you slam it in the winter.. Only a clear coat crack. |

if you are gonna run it in winter id get some 3m rockguard. there too many rocks and sand comin at the hood so its just another line of protection.
i had my hood on till about early dec, i decided to pull it off cause i noticed more chips and all the sand screwing up the clear coat.
its winter anyways and your car is gonna be dirty most of the time, so who cares about the hood? run the stocker during the winter months and switch it after spring, cause theres still lots of dirt and sand when the snow melts. |

If the carbon fibre hood is Real dry carbon, the hood will be fine in winter.
If it is fake and is the wet carbon they have a problem with shrinkage in the cold.
From experience. |

So...Correct me if I'm wrong...
Carbon fibre is a nice solid material that your interested in putting on your car. Well I know a little about Carbon...First of all scientists agree that Carbon is the element that composes our physical bodies. Carbon is inside us all and a daily part of your lives...
My Suggestion? Strap a couple of old people to the front of your car. Carbon hood. Problem solved.
and if you want it to change colors just put the old people in different outfits.

Seriously now.. I like how you accepted everyones opinion [ no matter how bluntly stated] but stuck with your original goals. Don't let anyone tell you how to ride.
