The Edmonton Oilers traded Marc Andre Bergeron to the New York Islanders for a 3rd round draft pick, and Denis Grebeshkov. Grebeshkov is currently playing in Russia, and will not come here this season.
I do not understand how this will better our team towards the playoffs. What do you guys think of this trade? :dunno:

Think of it this way, how many fucking times does that idiot give up the puck a game and it result in a goal or scoring chance? Thats gonna help us.
He'll come out and make a great play then fuck up the next 3 plays and they'll scoe on us b/c of it.
Glad he's gone, not sure about it being a good trade though, as he does have good scoring potential and is a decent defencemen. |

| I agree that he gives up/fucks up alot, but I think Kevin Lowe should have made more of an effort to get the Oilers something out of that trade. :dunno: |

| I like it. Glad he's finally gone. Maybe one more trade to acquire some prospects, then make a pitch to get the likes of Brewer and maybe Guerin here. |

So he's a good defenceman..........who enables the opposition to score a lot? That doesn't make much sense. That's like a good General.........who can't lead a 1 man parade to the outhouse. You can't have one with the other. |

Call up Matthew Roy, and you have Bergy filled in on the back end, just no replacement for that shot. |

I didn't say he was good, I said decent, aka not the best but better than nothing.
And yes you can have both, offencesive zone he's good, our zone he's terrible, isn't that magical, a decent defencemen that sucks at defence. |

Don't know the guy we traded for but I hope Lowe does, we need someone bad. |

| bergeron = useless... everyone always say "oh blah blah, fastest shot, blah blah, fastest skater"... fastest shot doesnt do shit if it never hits the net, and fastest skater doesn't mean anything if all you do is glide around aimlessly and give our puck up to the opposing team. not to mention he has a tendency to crosscheck people into Roloson :dunno: i think we should have traded him and Spacek both last year, i'm glad they're both gone finally  |

good, he sux... "Bergeron defending on Naslund, blows a tire and he scores..." he's been loseing the puck, making stupid play since last year, yeah he's got a good shot, but glad to see him go.
i think it's pretty much freeing up cap room for something better k-lowe has planned. |

A shot that misses the net 99% of the time is no good.
I am glad he is gone the amount that he gives up the puck per game is rediculous. Hell I would have trader him for a bag of pucks. |

Point shots pretty much always miss. Bergy had more goals than the rest of the defense combined. The only consistent hard shot from the point that we have is Stoll, and he's out.
Plus, Smyth has probably tipped a lot of our d-man's shots as well. |

| I'm just glad he's gone. He was useless and gave the puck away FAR too often. |

FINALLY!!! I'm gonna sleep good tonight.
I say the Oilers start selling and rebuild next year. Keep your go-to guys like Smyth, Hemsky and somebody call Kevin Lowe and tell him to bring Shremp up for fucks sake. |

Getting rid of Bergeron is just freeing up room for a skilled and experienced defenceman.
I think in the coming weeks, Sykora will be gone and we'll have Brewer to fill that open Defensive position. |

MAB was the worst d-man on the team this year, we should be happy with what we got for him.
the oilers dont need brewer, we have lots of talented d-man in the ahl. plus why bring him in when we can save that money for a ufa in the off season.
the following will be gone by the 27th sykora, schremp(if we need to toss in a prospect), nedved, markanen, lupul, winchester, torres and smyth( unless they sign him ). thats if the oilers become sellers this season.
the oilers are in 8th place with colorado 1pt back, they will win no more then 2 games on the curent road trip, that still leaves them in 9th place and 4pts back if minnestoa doesnt win any games. |

| I definately wouldn't ditch Sykora. Unless Stoll is 100%. If another vet forward goes down,... |

As soon as Shremp can learn to play 2 way hockey he might be usefull in the NHL. |

+1. Sykora isn't being a superstar this year but at least he is putting up decent points (over 40 I think).
I guess everybody has forgot about Moreau. Ever since they lost him earlier this year a bunch of Oilers have been dragging their asses, as soon as they get him back he is gonna kick a few guys around and get them going again, but it is probably gonna be too late to make any difference. |

well said, he's amazing offensively but his back-check and defensive play is horrendous |

| never liked bergeron from the start, i hated him even last year... i always thought he was horrible defensive wise and sacrifices defence for a little offence. And remember it was bergeron who took down that guy from carolina which leaded to them crashing into roloson to make him get hurt. |

I second that!! The team just doesn't have that same edge as it does with Moreau out of the lineup. Now hopefully we can bring up Gilbert or Roy  |

we are bringin up gilbert and jacque and i think roy as well.
the only oilers who should be scared of going anywhere are torres and lupul..we would be retarded to give up anyone else at this point. |

honestly why do you guys care right now? i mean, sure they have a shot at the playoffs but when it comes down to it, the team right now is utter crap and have no chance whatsoever. After Pronger decided to fuck around on his wife the oilers have lost any chance to have a solid defense. Too many bad decisions in the past few years have destroyed the team. Bergy can go, sure why not. He sucked anyway.
What the the 3rd round pick is all about is to get at least a chance at picking up some new talent to help build a new team. I dont know anything about this russian guy, but hopefully he is good.
The oilers are in desperate need of a Good defense. What the hell good is an offense without a defense. I mean i dont know how many times i watched pronger pull off some serious shit and now he's gone with bergy to cover for him this season. pfft.
i've lost faith in the oilers this season. Ah well atleast my #1 team is still doing good. Go Canucks! Go Luongo and the twins! |

| I was at 7-11 tonight and saw some goaltending magazine where they picked Roloson as their goalie of the year. I didn't pick it up though. Anyone read this article? How'd they come to this conclusion? |

A shitload of games with 50-plus saves during last year's playoffs, that's my guess.
Regardless, he is streaky. Luongo is the best in the league right now if you ask me. Kipper has been off this year and Brodeur hasn't really had to face as many tough teams.
EDIT: Anyone else watch the Penguins play and think about how scary that team would be if Fleury wasn't just a flash in the pan? Give them a solid veteran between the pipes and they'd be on top of the league right now. I've been wondering if they can beat that old Bruins record of 11 20-goal scorers. Not this year obviously, but who knows down the road.
God damn are they an exciting team to watch though. |

I've hated bergeron since... well, before Cory Cross became my most hated Oiler.
people argue that he's the defencemen on the team with the most points, BUT for every goal he got, I'm pretty confident he's caused 2 in return.
and that fucker cost us the stanley cup last year. whiney little bitch. |

Sykora is a UFA at the end of the year, so it wouldn't hurt the Oilers if they could get a prospect in return for him. |

| By the end of this road trip they should know if they're going to be selling. If they don't win these last two games then they likely will be dumping players to contenders. Who knows, they might be able to get a couple million by lending some players like Smyth out. Have them locked to re-sign when their free agency comes up, but allow him to go contribute for someone that has some cap room and is going for the cup. |
