Where is a good place to get an alternator rebuilt? - Click HERE for Original Thread

GOT BOOST
Hi Everyone,

I am just curious as to who has had an alternator rebuilt. Where did you get it rebuilt? What was your experience with the shop? What was the cost?

I am contemplating purchasing a remanufactured one, pre-owned, or just getting mine rebuilt.

I am checking out the pricing for all three options so I can make an economical decision. I am of the opinion that once it is installed and it has spun once it is used.

Joe's auto electric I think is the name, it is just off Ft Road and Yellowhead, just west and a touch north of the hughes, used to re-build them, I asked about getting mine rebuilt, he said it's not worth it anymore.

I didn't buy one from him, cause the alt I wanted would need new brackets, but he suggested a wrecker, showed me picktures or the alt, what vehicles it came in, etc, etc.

His price on an alt was really good, the one I wanted was about $175(120Amp) and CT wanted $250ish for the stock one I have of 78Amp.

Just as a heads up - the Hitachi ones at Canadian Tire are brand new units (Should be cheaper than the dealer) if you want to investigate that route. They will occasionally have 20% off sales as well, but that doesn't help if you need it right away...
