amp recomendations? - Click HERE for Original Thread

Its been awhile since I have done amp and sub wiring but im not totally in the dark about it.

I have a single rockferd 12" p3 500W rms and 1000W peak power sub in a box and need an amp to run it.

Now I forget how amps all work with there watt rataing and the ohm thing. I also rember being able to combine 2 channels together or something for more power belive its called bridging an amp
Also would it be possible to get an amp that could run the sub and run 2 JBL 6X9 (100W rms each and 300W max each)????

sorry if any of this doesn't make sense its been awhile since I have done any car audio involving amps and subs:blink:

What you need is 4-channel amplifier, you can run both speakers off 2 channels, and then bridge the remaining 2 channels to run your sub. Something in the 800W range would be good methinks. Stay away from sony and kenwood.

And if an amplifier is rated for say 500W RMS @ 4ohms, and it's stable at 2ohms as well, the output would be double by reducing the impedence by half.

what i did with my system is ran my four speakers off one amp(4 channel). each speaker getting the rms(recommened power for best sound) and a mono or "sub" amp for my sub. its expensive but compared to what i have read and heard it is the right thing to do ppl who have been in my car have said over and over that it sounds amazing and better than almost anything else they have heard.

Best is to go 2 seperate amps like chevguy said you dont need lots of power for the speakers. Example a MTX 4004 or Rockford 450.4 would do good and for the sub i would go a MTX 4001. I have on in my car powering 2 12" subs and its plenty of power.
As well you dont need to get Rockford or MTX those are just the products I prefer.

Fosgate T3002 will do the job well. Probably the best amp for that sub!

Not everyone can afford 2 seperate amps, and he's not running 4 speakers if I read his original post correctly...

Is your p3 a dual voice coil? From what I remember I thought most of them were dual 4 ohm, which means that you need a 4 channel thats stable to 2 ohm mono. For that the Power series rockford would be a good choice, as well as Kicker makes a 3 channel amp that has 2 stereo channels and one mono channel that is optimized to 2 ohms.
