I'm getting married in August, and I've decided to wear a suit rather than a tux. So I am looking for a place that has suits that aren't too pricey but aren't super cheap. I'm looking to spend about $500 but will spend a bit more. I know there are a ton of places, I just want to see if there are any recommendations.
Thanks! |

| when i bought a suit for grad, i went to international clothers in west ed. they have a pretty decent selection there, but the only problem i had was finding one that fits me that i actually liked |

When I got married my brother was 13 years old. My Grandfather insisted he wear his old wool brown suit he brought over from China in 1967! My parent's were poor and there was no point for him to buy a new suit since he would grow out of it. I took him to Value Village and bought him a blazer for $5! It even had a fancy crest on the pocket but there were some stains on it. The drycleaning costed more than the blazer. :D
I don't suggest you do it for yourself but if you have a younger brother....

| Last time I went to Moores the chick was kinda dumb. I know of all the common places. I guess what I am asking is if there are some good places other than Moores/The Bay/other stores in the mall. :) |

| Wally MNart carries the "george" brand, but they're basic and I didn't like the fit, decent price, not as good as moores. |

i was going to say mores as well
for five hundred that should do
i got a sweet ralph lauren suit for grad there for about that price |

i buy most of mine at Holt Renfrew or Henry Signer but i don't think you can get a full suit for 500 there.

You may want to look into getting a custom jacket done - if you can find a smaller tailor they should be able to get your something good for that price.
I myself didn't have problems with Moores - I just picked out the one blatently homosexual guy to help me and I was all set. Everything matched, everything was coordinated (Which is good for me since I'm partially colour blind). If you're not impressed with Moores and the typically big box places, I would focus your efforts with a custom jacket from a smaller tailor. A good place to get a starting price would be the little shop at West Ed - it's just off Europa. They've done good work for me in the past with hemming/fitting clothes before. |

Where did you get those suits ... the ... toilet ... store?
How about Tip Top?:dunno: |

Holts is generally more than Singers, but they do not cost "thousands." Go there, check out what they have, see the pricepoints, and I think you may see what 2 or 3 hundred more than your 5 may be worth it. There is a reason there is a saying "it fit like a cheap suit." Suits are something where construction and material will make a true diference in fit and durability.
If you are getting married I do not think I wold want to be in the cheapest suit in the room.
You could get pretty close to your range if you get something on sale.
Maybe try The Colony as well. It is in the mall down by the bay. |

| Henry Singer is good, Moores is good, Holt is good, and also try custom tailors. it's for your wedding, you don't want to cheap out to much. :) |

Moore's and Tip Top and them sell decent suits for about $300. Grafton & Co sell much nicer stuff, but it'll run you between $400 and $800. Next step up is Harry Rosen's but it'll be over a grand. I used to work at both Tip Top and Grafton & Co. Good selection and helpful staff.
For a wedding I'd say get black or charcoal (my preference is charcoal), avoid a double breast. 4 button if you're over 6' tall, 3 button otherwise. To determine the quality of a suit, check the lining. The more high quality the lining, the better quality the suit is.
They'll be off the rack suits, so the best way to get a good looking suit is NOT to skimp on alteration. Best to buy cheaper and get more alterations than buy pricey and have to skimp back. The sharpest looking guy I ever saw while working there bought Tip Top suits on sale for $100 and paid $180 in alterations: collar roll, shoulder pads, lapel adjustments, back, sides and waist taken in, length and sleeve shortened, pants brought it, crotch dropped, and the hemmed. A good tailor can make a peice of crap look hot if he knows what he's doing.
On that note, get your alterations done by a REAL tailor. The ones in store are rarely that good. And for a wedding, don't get rolled cuffs on the pants, get a plain bottom. Looks classier. |

| Another vote for tip top. Good price for a decent suit. |

I prefer to get custom tailord suits from Coppley but thats still $1000+ depending on material/design. The most important thing is looking for a quality fit.
I suggest going to a tailor, getting properly measured and then trying a bunch of different suit styles/companies and seeing which fits best/you like. And like dtjohnst mentioned, get it tailored right!
Tip Top/Crafton and Co have a decent selection for the price. You can also hit up Zara/Banana/etc, I found their styles tend to be more fashionable and the prices are what you're looking for if not cheaper.
Also, it is your wedding, I dont know your budget, but dont cheap out on a suit. A good suit will last a lifetime. As for design? Get your wife to pick just to be safe.... it is her day afterall. haha. |

You can try Lafleche Bros on 58th ave & 99 st.
They are highly recommended.
Congrats and best of luck with the wedding.

Unless he lets himself go, since he no longer has to worry about impressing her.
And it is her day, and your nightmare. |

Hahaha, I don't think Dave could put on weight on a solid diet of Crisco and maple syrup. |

| I gotta vote for Henry Singer (the one downtown). I got all of my suits from there and am always pleased with the service. To be in all honesty you can get like a hugo boss suit for under 1000. Ted Baker suits are a bit cheaper and they are very nice. Just remember you get what you pay for. |

| Give DoubleDown a pm. He has the hook ups for a good, well made, custom wool suit. I would tell you but I forget where he said it was lol. Something like $700. |

Well I'm actually losing weight on the bacon fat and donut diet that I am on, so you're probably right.
Well thanks for all the tips guys. I went to Tip Top last night just hoping to get some ideas. The guy was a huge help and three hours later my groomsman and I all had suits. About $600 each.
We are doing a pretty small wedding on a budget (anyone who has gotten married knows how retarded expensive they can get very easily) so I didn't want to spend too much. And I only need to wear a suit for work 2-3 times a year. |

Sorry for the off topic, but this reminds me of Rush Hour 2 "Cheap Suits, Cheap Suits!"
I would actually like to get a suit, but I always end up laying on the floor under somebodies desk fixing a computer... |

haha The sign of a good salesmen. Went to get ideas, left with an armful of suits. At Grafton we used to pride ourselves on that: 10% of people who walked through the door walked out empty handed, and most of them came in with coffee in their hands. Coffee is a sure sign they aren't serious. But if you walked into our store and actually had the money in your account to afford a suit, you were leaving the store with one in hand. Man, we could've sold ice to an eskimo.
Tip Top makes good suits though. They actually owned a factory in Ontario when they were bought out, one of the few suit stores that did, and a lot of their stuff is top notch. The Bellisimo line had some of the most gorgeous suits I'd ever seen, nicer than Boss, CK and DKNY. Only thing I found nicer were Armani and some select Stonehouse. Good quality too. I doubt you'll be disappointed. |
