Car Rental Question - Click HERE for Original Thread

Ok not sure if this is the correct section to post this in....
I rented a car late last year and i forgot to purchase insurance as i thought my visa would cover it...What ended up happening is i got into a little fender bender back in december. What i did next was went in and purchased insurance from then on. When the associate looked over my car he missed the damage, (very minor)...The other party filed the claim and I had to go and file a police repory , etc etc. now 3 months later i get a letter asking me to pay for the damage or they take legal action....Now what I'm wondering is since they missed the damage in the inspection, do I have any say here or do i have to pay them? Should i get a lawyer?

you should go talk to a lawyer, they usally have free consults.

Usually if you don't purchase the additional insurance then you are on the hook for the damages. Now I know that they over looked the damages when you returned the car but there is documented proof that you were in a accident with that car while you had possesion of it. Thats where you are fucked. Just like photo radar pics, they usually show up a week to 10 days later. So you are going to say that you aren't paying them as well because you didn't get busted red handed? Just own up to your mistake and go pay for the damages.

You basically are committing fraud. I'm sure the date on the police report will show the damage happened before you added the extra coverage. You should pay. I work for a rental place and I hate dumbasses like you.

well they didn't inform about the details...hell they overcharged me too and didn't apply my discounts..I was suppose to be contacted a week after and that didn't happen. Next thing i know i get a letter from them. Yes i know they would have the date of the incident..Although it was minimal damage, it still should have been pointed out when i came in to purchase the extra insurance...I didn't even get a new rental agreement...It's so ambiguous.

You should of pointed it out when you came in to buy the extra insurance. You are basically defrauding the company. If the damage is so minimal then why don't you just go ahead and pay to get it fixed.

The advertised car rental rate you normally see is a weekend rate (you knew it was too good to be true). The total cost of using rental cars can be submitted to a lot more extra costs than you think. Car rental agencies generally charge four kinds of basic rates:

1.a daily rate with a mileage charge
2.a daily rate with a limited number of free miles per day
3.a daily rate with unlimited mileage
4.a rate that has free mileage over an extended period
