Where are some good companies to deal with car insurance? I'm looking to insure a 2002 Ford Taurus for a 20 year old male with a immaculate license (Not even a parking ticket). Where would you guys recommend and how much would I be looking at (ballpark)? My current insurance companies wants to ding me 2500, an extra $780 for out of province insurance, despite being a student and my permanent address being in that province. Thanks.
Edit: This is for Edmonton area. |

Errrrrrrrrr. You're a permanent resident in another province? Dumb question.........why don't you insure it there? And which province?
EDIT: Unless you mean your here now as a student and you're talking about your place back home.....
In which case, you're SOL. When I first moved here I was a full-time student and wasn't changing my "permanent residency" and I was informed by 3 different government departments that it made no difference and a car still had to be registered here after 3 months. |

Well, talked to my insurance company, apparently I have to insure the vehicle based on the principle area that its being driven in, not where the permanent address is.
So what's some good insurance companies people have had good experiences with? |

I live in Edmonton, near the University (southside ish?) Car will principally be driven in Edmonton, with the occasional foray to BC, my driver's license is issued from BC, but if/when I switch it, it will be issued from Edmonton.
Anything else I can answer to help out? |

| nope not really.. if your liscense is issued in BC then im pretty sure youll need BC insurance, specially if you plan on driving there. |

Your insurance from BC should cover you for 3 months in Alberta. At which time, under Alberta regulations, even if you're only a student here during the school year, you must switch your licence and registration to Alberta.
That was the official word I was given.
I use State Farm, had no problems with them. |
