Cost no object, since Mazda is paying.
Back in December, paint started peeling off of my grill. Mazda simply sent me a brand new pre-painted grill under warantee to replace it. I was happy with that.
However, now paint is peeling off of my hood. I'm not so happy with that.
After talking to the dealership, and them contacting Mazda Canada about the problem, they have agreed to pay to have the hood repainted. They want me to get quotes from at least two different shops and have them fax in the quotes.
Basically what I want is for the auto body shop to prove that it is a problem with the primer, and to do a good job with a lifetime warantee on their work. The car is metallic gray, which I understand is a very difficult color to color match.
So ... where do you recommend I go, and where do you recommend I avoid? I can be somewhat selective, so I don't want to send in quotes from places that are going to do a shitty job. So I need your advice.
Thanks guys! |

I would think Modern would be the best bet within the city.
You could also see Cougar - they tailor their paint jobs from budget to show quality. In fact, during Powerama they usually have several show cars done.
Why wouldn't you get it done at the Mazda dealership and get them to give you a lifetime warranty? As well, have you talked to them about a complete repaint since you've had the same problem on two different panels? |

I would also add Reflections Autobody onto the list.
I've seen the work of reflections, modern, doug's place and transform.. and they are pretty good. |

Mazda told me they wanted me to get at least two estimates. I don't know why they don't want to do it themselves, but that's what they want me to do. |

No matter which shops you pick for quotes, have them explain to you what they will do to ensure this doesn't happen again. I'm assuming that any decent shop will want to strip the pieces to bare metal, use an etching primer, etc, etc..... so that this doesn't happen again.
Beware of shops that plan to just sand, prime, paint. To get the best job, educate yourself on the process that you want and only submit quotes that reflect that process. |

Cougar sucks they painted my gf's car after i hit a deer with it and there was overspray all over the grill, they missed several spot, there was putty all over the inside the car and the car was just an overall mess.

A buddy of mine got his car painted their, and it is mint! Been like that for 2 or 3 years now.
I got some stuff painted their and it is awesome. Ill just have to wait and see how long it lasts.
And shouldn't they have lifetime warranty of peeling? |

| i think the policy back then was 2 years guarantee..... my mom's car was 1 month old when it got involved in a fender bender..... actualy this past winter we had to take it to the body shop to have the paint peeling repaired and panels were rusting where they fixed it.. and she washes and keeps her car clean all the time.... i dunno maybe i just had a shitty apprentice working on the car. and doug's asshole too.. he yelled at us after we kept bringing the car back for flaws |

Thanks for your advice. I ended up getting quotes from Modern, Doug's, and Joey's. I submitted the quotes from Modern and Doug's. Of the two, Mazda told me to make an appointment with Modern and get them to bill the dealership directly.
So I'm happy with the outcome. And it sounds like Modern is a pretty respectable place to go. |

I don't have any direct experience with them but I've always heard (via word of mouth) that that's where you go for a $10,000 paint job that would cost you ~$4k-5k everywhere else. |
