Does anyone out there know of a place I can get my hands on an engine rebuild kit for a 1995 Ford Probe GT (2.5L), preferably locally (Edmonton)?
I am thinking that it would include:
- head gaskets
- valve stem seals
- valve cover gaskets
- intake manifold gaskets (both upper and lower)
- exhaust manifold gaskets
- main bearings (including thrust)
- piston rings
...oh what am I missing...
I'm not sure, but nonetheless, you get the idea.
Thanks in advance. |

| for everything u want to do i would just buy a klze from japan and slap her in.. have about 60000km on them. off the top of my head i can't think of any auto stores... other than your basic napa's and shit.. the dealership is a con artist and have the shit for the probe is discontiuned.. pisses me right off.. but good luck with your rebuild. |

I don't know why I didn't think of it but ya the klze might be a good idea to swap if your either knowledgeable about boosting or decide not to boost it as it s a high comp engine and isn't as friendly as the kl03 u have now.
Jdmsource can get u the engine, then its just an ecu and some wiring IIRC..
might be a cheaper overall better idea, 200hp stock isn't to bad, some bolt ons and/or head work and you could have some decent power out of her. |

JDMSource, eh? Where can they be found?
As for the ecu and wiring, would they be able to provide those too? I just spent 2 weeks pulling my engine harness and fixing it all up. I made it yellow :D . It was a fun project, as I like the electrical stuff. |

i would imagine they can get u an ecu.. if not sign up on performance probe. they have lots of great information on these motors alot of the members have done the swap and can walk you right through it. here is the like to jdm source
www.jdmsource.ca/
it appears the site is down right now. try performanceprobe for sure.. u will find it very helpful to your probe related questions compared to this site. |

jdm source is in calgary Fazda linked there site.
Engine IIRC is only the longblock (no tranny, ecu, wiring (could b wrong though, will have to check when their site is back up)
You can usually find the rest of the stuff on ebay or from one of the probe forums.
If your serious about doing the swap get on probetalk, mx6.com ect ect and start reading. Then re-read. |

I've done engine swaps before, but only OE. I can't see there being any difference in the engines as they are the same block, just different heads and intake. (I think). I am currently a member of Performanceprobe. I have read up on the swaps, and I actually have a friend who is looking to sell his KLZE that he hasn't yet installed in his project '94 Probe GT, but he doesn't have an ECU or harness. If I can find them, he will sell it cheap to me...So I think that's the route I'm gonna take.
Nonetheless, once I get it, I'm going to rebuild it. I wonder if the JDM bottom end is the same...hmm...time to post at Performanceprobe. |

| i know the camms are different, intake manifold, and that stuff too. plus compression is higher. but definetly swap.! |

| I did the KLZE swap in my old MX3. Very straight forward. Simple in and out operation |

Well now if your dead set on rebuilding the engine you choose you might be better off with the kl03...
If you've read up on boosting these engines and how similar they are you realize then that your kl03 has just as much if not more potential then the ze.
A built kl03 can take some serious power and if you are going to rebuild either engine anyway why not just do it to the one you already have..Saves buying an engine, ecu and harness, that extra money can be put into some better rods and supporting turbo mods.
IMO buying the klze and then rebuilding it is a waste of money. Go klze if you want n/a power, go kl03 if you want boost. |

| ya because the kl03 is lower compression its makes more sense building that and boosting if your going for major gains.. there was some crazy bastard running 27psi on a stock kl03.. it never blew up for a long time.. pushing some serious power. he was either high 10's or low 11's |

They also have more turbo friendly cams than the klze.
I believe the weak point in the kl03 are the rods, so if you rebuilding it replace them with somethig alittle more sturdy (aswell as pistons) add some nice arp studs and that would b a nice turbo motor. |

Fuck everything that comes out of my mouth nowa days is boost everything lol.
Sorry to get off topic.
If you just want a quick engine klze is fine
If you want some good power good with a rebuilt kl03 turbo
Don't boost the ze and don't rebuild the ze (waste of money imo, better spent on 03 mods) I'm done here.

I'm excited about returning to work once I'm done here at school and beginning my teardown. That car will be a total sleeper when it's done... NOBODY suspects the Probe...
Thanks for the link, Fazda. It really is a good one
I'll be sure to take pics as it all comes apart on me. |
