Formattig Memory Card - Click HERE for Original Thread

HEWSINATOR
So I got a SD memory card (2 gig) for mas to use in my Camera. It took pics fine, then I got back from holidays, and it will not let me DL the photos, it tells me that I need to format the card, so I try to follow the boxes and it will not let me anyway.

Tips?

If you need more info, I will try to provide it.

Cheers,

Matt

Get an external card reader, like $20 at Future Shop.

Sorry, I may not be understanding or explaining enough. My computer has a slot for the card.

Why does it need to be formatted, my 512 and other cards by the same brand did not need to be. Anyway to not lose the photos on it?

I put it in and open it, then get told it is not formatted, would I like to, I say yes, and then it tells me it can not be. Is the card messed or am I missing something simple? Don't know if it matters but I can view my pics on the camera.

Thanks,

Matt

your computer is having issues viewing. can you view them on your camera if you put the card back in the cam? If so your computer slot is likely not working properly but what you can do is try to plug into a printer with an sd slot, or an external reader etc etc.

HEWSINATOR
Ya, I can view them on the camera, and if I use another card, I have no problems viewing and downloading. Starting to sound like it is the card.

I thought/was hoping I was missing something simple like I had to hold my left elbow while doing it.

try using the cable that came with the camera to transfer to the computer. With my old digital that was a shitty way to go, but with USB 2 compatibility it's a lot faster to use the camera cable than both the PCMCIA slot reader and external USB reader that I have. When you've got 6 gigs of photos to transfer you need all the speed you can get.

HEWSINATOR
Using a cable worked, thank you for your tech support ;).

Still find it odd that I could not throw it in the slot like I had done every time before this.

Thanks again.

Your card reader may be shot?:dunno:

Update as if anybody cares....

Other memory cards work fine in the card reader. Could it be the size of the card? I have a 512 that works great, and this 2 gig will not. Also, using the camera and cord to transfer, many of the videos did not transfer.
