Rule Change #1 For Rallycross - Click HERE for Original Thread

rexxrally
At the February meeting (AGM) there was discussion of a rule change for the rallycross series. The proposal is to add another class to the existing FWD, AWD and RWD. The structure of this new class was debated, but no resolution could be found, so we are putting it to the club for debate and vote. There are three proposed ways to populate the new class, two by classifying the driver, one by classification of the car (the same way autocross does it):

1) Novice drivers (no more than 3 prior rallycross events) regardless of vehicle drive configuration
2) Masters (many years of rally or rallycross experience) regardless of vehicle drive configuration
3) rallycars with points assigned as per the following table:

ClassBase
RWD 0
FWD 1
AWD 2

Tires
All Season 0
Winter 1
Summer -1

Exhaust

ECU

6 points moves you to a prepared class.
Might want to consider lightening of the car as 1 point.

Please add your comments here, including whether or not you are a paid member of the ERC for 2007. The official vote on the above proposal will be held at the regular March meeting on March 14th at 7PM at the Millwoods Police Station.

To start, many thanks to all involved with the club for making a fantastic season.
Now, the moment you’ve all (both?) been waiting for:
My 2 cents

I propose leaving the class structure as it is for one more season to see how things pan out. As it stands I don’t think we really have the numbers to support another class.
If we are going to do another class, make it a single class based on car prep. The proposed points system seems good, although I think I would put more weight on the LSD for 2 wheel drive cars and Turbo control for the AWD”s. (3 points)
As for a Novice class, I think we would do better to try and allot time for driver instruction to help newer drivers to become competitive faster.

I have paid for 2007.

I am voting against classifying the driver. That is primarily due to the implied notion that the driver becomes "experienced" after three rallycrosses. Sidewayze makes a very good point here - maybe our more experienced drivers should ride with the novices during some of their runs during the first three rallycrosses and share they wealth of knowledge with those who are just starting out.

Classifying the vehicle has some merit, in order to level the playing field, but the number of variables seems a bit large. Could one combine ECU+Intake/fuel+Internal into one and assign a larger value, say, 3 points.

I vote for that we run another season with the existing rules, as Sidewayze suggests. However, this season, we should classify all participating vehicles according to the proposed point system and run an unofficial scoring in parallel with the existing system, to see what the differences would have been. That way, we will have some real data to work with and we can make a better informed decisions next year.

My vote is to go with the points system for the cars over 6 you run rally car class
