driving with stock struts with lowering springs - Click HERE for Original Thread

azn_fire_fly
whats everyones experience with them.last year i ran with tokico blues and they leaked after a season. i was wondering whats everyones experiece with running with stock struts with aftermarket lowering springs?
what kind of problems have you guys run into?

Ayeso
horrible ride quality, you bounce all over
stock struts will blow way faster then aftermarket, you must remember depending on how much you are lowered you need different shocks, tockico blues are only good for up to 2 inch drop.

yea i want to know too, the previous owner of my car repalced all the shocks and struts or w/e before i got the vehicle and i was just thinking of putting on an eibach pro kit...dun mean to hi jack ur thread...just making for a bigger discussion

i love the handling with the aftermarket struts, its just that Edmonton is filled with potholes and just sicks feeling all the bumps at times
im still considering aftermarket struts, but just want something to last more than one season

fartcannon
if you dont want to blow up your aftermarket struts you have to memorize the entire cities roads or the ones you use and avoid all the pot holes

by doing that you will save your struts

hit them all and your struts life will be shortened

Stock struts on aftermarket springs not a good idea...

When you buy suspension pieces you really should match them to each other so they compliment eachother, not work against themsleves.

If Edmontons roads weren't so bad. If you spend the money on springs and struts, why not just save a little more and go Coilover suspension?:dunno:

I'm sure there has to be someone out there that has made stuff for the MX6. Regardless, you can buy the sleeves and have someone in town build them for you.

~sanj~
u mean those e-bay sleeve coilover springs?

nahh
i thought i read sumwhere on this forum that 95% of the time coil overs are never "tuned" right..but really there is nothnig much to tune??

imma just go with lowering springs adn the kyb gr2's and ill be happy :P

gr-2's are junk...and ya u can get coilovers and "tuning" them isn't that hard.

~sanj~
if gr2's are junk, whats ur preference?

Haha, you obviously never been to the East Coast. Edmonton roads are perfect compared to the East Coast.

Anyways, on this subject...It is always a good idea to buy aftermarket struts to match your lowering springs. Factory struts are not designed to work with aftermarket lowering springs. They are designed for factory springs.

Even though I say that, I had my Civic lowered with Eibach SportLine Lowering Springs on my stock struts for over 2 years. They did not blow and the ride quality was still pretty good. It was not bouncy at all. You usually get the shitty bouncy ride with low quality springs.

x2. had H&R RACE springs on my lude on stock shocks, very nice ride. not very bumpy not too stiff. had them on over a year and thats almost a 2" drop. its not bad if you cant afford the money for some good AM shocks
