Hey,
Does anyone know what classes you take in the course?
Also how would transferability work from Grant Mac's first year accounting program?
Is this even possible since Nait requires you to take their Business Admin Program for the first year, in order to get into the accounting program?
Also is it possible to get the diploma through Nait and then Transfer over to the U OF A for the Degree?
Thanks |

| NAIT offers you the ability to get credit for work done through other institutions. |

I disagree. I haven't taken this course so I can only speculate, but the Computer Systems Technology course was well worth the money to me. And I've heard nothing but good things about NAIT. |

As i write this post, i am sitting in the basement computer lab of the business tower, half going over my online notes before my intermediate II accounting midterm. To give you some perspective.
maybe the CST classes are different. In the business tower, ut seemes mediocre teachers are given free rein in teaching their course, and designing their tests. I take 6 classes this Semester.. 3 of them have tests. so that means the other 3 classes are not standardized and the teachers can.. teach whatever they choose.
On more then 5 occasions iv have been so discusted at the way a teacher runs her/his classroom that i have spoken to their co-ordinator. One teacher was replaced for the remainder of the semester due to one of these talks.
On the other hand, i have had amazing teachers, who know what their doing, and know exactly how to present information to a group of people without berating them in anyway. these are the teachers who post their online notes, show up to class on time, and can make time at the end of the class (or at any free point in their day) to give you a hand.
Sounds sugar-sweet right? The reality is these teachers are few and far between. I hope ive learned to recognize them so that I can truly apprectiate when I get a good apple.
But seriously.. there are some awful teachers here.. if your goign to transfar to the U.. take it there, or at GMac.. at least they make an effort there to standardize everything |

I don't think the U of A accepts NAIT's program for transfer, so if you want to earn a degree at the U of A I would agree with 300zxgal and either take it at GMac or U of A.
I had some not so great teachers in school too and I do agree that some of NAIT's teachers aren't the greatest. NAIT is better suited for trades or computer courses. |

The only two local ones that do (I believe) are Athabasca and Lethbridge. |

| U of A does accept NAIT course credits, BUT you better have really good marks and two they only accept like .5 or .8 of the credit, so even if you do transfer your going to at least be spending one semester taking courses to make up the rest. |

| If you want to go to the U of A, why don't you just go there? What's all this transfer stuff? |

I have 2 buddies who're at GMac now, and I asked them the same thing when they enrolled there. Apparently they think University is full of granola hippies, so they hit GMac to get some ladies. So one day I took them on a walk through the campus and they're regretting their choice. |

I actually think GMAC, has the highest girl to guy ratio in Edmonton. It is NUTS!
And some of the reasons why people prefer the transfer, is that tuition may be cheaper at the other school. |

Class sizes and the environment itself plays a big factor as well (At least that's what our survey's say to us). |

Both of my brothers took accounting at NAIT one is a CMA the other isnt. They both work for a very large company now. (One is accounting manager) My advice, if you go to nait get your CMA its worth it.
As for the transfering. Thats what i plan on doing from NAIT to UBC, why cause it will be cheaper to do so and i dont hit the pre-recs for UBC/ U of A |

300zxgal - If you're in your last semester, you're not going to regret it.
I took Bus. Admin - Acct and graduated in '02.
I've worked as a Restaurant Manager, Retail Manager, Financial Acct for and Oil and Gas company, and now I'm a Territory Manager for an engineering firm.
NAIT gave me a great background in business. I could have gone to the U or GMac, but I funded myself through school and didn't want a student loan. Back then I also didn't know exactly what I wanted to do but I wanted to keep going so it was the least expensive alternative. |
