Seafoam? - Click HERE for Original Thread

DesmoDoe
Has anyone ever used this? Does it work? Recomended?

Tech2
I used it. Seemed to work pretty good, though I changed some other things right after that would also have improved my gas mileage.

AdamP
Do these engine cleaners/conditioners have a negative impact on the O2 sensors?

There are some mixed reviews floating around. If you don't have carbon deposits then it probably won't make too much of a difference.

Personally, I don't really buy into all of these miracle engine treatments.

SilverNeonRacer
Seafoam isn't a "treatment" it's a cleaner, some people swear by it, I used it, no ill effects, but I didn't get the big nasty cloud like everybody, but I had already run through a few tanks with lucas oil cleaner/fuel system lube

dance_of_curse
when i change my oil i put it in and run it till theres no smoke and then put the new oil in...the spray also helps to clean shit....vacc lines and what not..when i did it..it felt more responsive...:dunno:

ChromeDragon
Helped pick up response quite a bit in my Corolla.

GQsmooth
seafoam:thumbup:

Thegnome
Works pretty good! It smoothed my idle a bit when I first bought my car.

flatboy
I seafoam everything I own.

Atleast one can in the gas between oil changes

and a couple days before the oil change it get 1/2 a can in the oil.

Also this weekend I'm goina do the Tracer I just picked up. - through the brake booster line, maybe I'll even get a vid of it.

Lawn mover and snowblower and all that stuff also get the treatment for storage.

Transporter
where does one purchase sea foam

GT34
Napa autoparts has it. I've used it on just about everything I've owned and some of my friends cars too. There's more of a difference after you use it on the older cars because they usually have more buildup of carbon than the newer cars. And you can put it anywhere. In the crankcase, fuel tank, and the best way to fog up your whole block on a sunday afternoon is sucking it in through a vacumn hose .

mitsubitchy
I used it last year and I didnt get a reallly big smoke show...

But the funny thing was that when I was driving around the block to get rid of the smoke, I pass by another skyline using seafoam too so we were both creating smoke from our exhausts as we pass by each other lol

n0c7
Used it on my 95 Intrepid last spring. Sucked it in through the PVC hose. Tonnes of smoke. Even took it for a spin shortly after and there was a jet stream of smoke. There were a couple of kids on the block at the time and they were coughing and waving their hands. Didnt notice much difference but it obviously cleared some crap out.

doom26464
i used it on my corolla seemed to help the car out alot and it performed much better

usdm.s13
Any disadvantages or potential problems in running this with a turbo?

MPZoom
I'm pretty sure you can use it with turbos. A bunch of Mazdaspeedsters on the forum I goto use it with no ill effects.

I sucked it through the vaccuum hose from the brake booster and Intake Manifold. Poured about half a can and it smoked up pretty good. Everything felt a bit more responsive but no miracles.

Blackout-spec
ive went to canadian tire, princess auto, mopac, and parts source and none of them carried this stuff, nor ever heard of it.

is there any other place then napa that has this stuff?

As far as I'm aware it's still "newish" to Canada, not all provinces have it, and in Alberta only Napa sells it.

The Daver
So whats the lowdown you insert this into our engine anyway imagineable (gas, oil, vac line) and it cleans it out??

flatboy
I'll dump one can in the gas tank, about once every 5000km or so.

When I change my oil, I'll dump about 1/3 of a can into the oil and drive like that for a day or so. Driving longer won't harm your engine, it'll just evaporate.

I'll also pull the line off from the master brake booster and let the engine suck up about 1/3 of the can and then let it sit. Start engine and it'll run a bit rough till it clears up.

Any engine that sits for a long time could also get some in the gas, like the snow blower and stuff.

Stainless
Is it any better or worse than AMSOil Powerfoam? I've used that a few times on cars, and it always helped the cars idle better, and run smoother.

SkiTLz
Wouldnt this have negative effects on older cars. The carbon buildup is often HELPING keep the engine running. Clean it out and you got leaks and shit.

That is true and when using seafoam it's a good idea to not dump this stuff into the crank case if your cars has alot of km's. I used seafoam on a 1990 celica and a mazda mx-3 and put half into the pcv hose and half into the gas tank. The difference was much more noticable on the mazda then the celica though, but the difference was there.

I was at the main Napa off of 170st and 111ave a week ago and they had tonnes on the shelf.

Blackout-spec
im going there tom.
thanks.

Prudz_lude
So nobody has posted a nightmare of this stuff yet? there are countless ones on the prelude websites and multiple other car forums for north america.... Hope you all have good luck. That shit is suppose to be the equvilant of karocine. It rots your seals fast supposidly. I should probably dig a thread up and post it so you guys can read some nightmares before you all run out and start dumping it in your cars.

Blackout-spec
maby if you leave it in the engine/gas for along period of time... i think its ok for short periods of time.

flatboy
I've never had any problems, but I'm sure there are exception to. Use it with common sense and it's like anything, shit could happen. I've used it on every single vehicle I own.

2004 CRV
2000 Tacoma
91 Tracer
and the list goes on.

My lawnmower, snowblower, and pressure washer get a full tank of gas at the end of the season, then get a splash of Seafoam, run for a bit then put away. The next season when I start them, it's useually first or second pull and they start. BTW there is no gummy stuff in the bottom of the fuel bowls anymore when useing this stuff.

n0c7
I've ran it on a 95 Intrepid, smoked like CRAZY, ran a bit better, no ill effects noticed. I've avoided it on other older cars just in case the gunk is what is holding seals together.

white46
tried on 95 vw golf cl, 88 bmw 325is, 90 bmw 325i.
it works like charm.

Tech2
Worked for me.

friedn00dles
plenty left at 118ave wayne gretzky napa. picked up two cans :D cant wait

**edit**
i did as the instructions said.started to pour 1/3 into the brake vacuum.got worried cause the engine bogged out and stalled. waited 15 mins then restarted the car and holy crap what a smoke show. my whole parking lot was filled with thick white smoke which smelled not to pleasant but hell i was happy to see smoke. backed out and went for a rip on yellowhead.

i noticed a huge difference right away. before seafoaming it when driving in 2nd gear my engine seemed to bog out at 2900RPM and just hesitated to accelerate but that is now completly gone. Idle has smoothened out and is quiet as if it were a completly new engine. full tune-up is next first thing in the morning

+1 millllliiiion to seafoam. highly recommend it:thumbup:
