Ground wire. - Click HERE for Original Thread

SEafor
I am installing a new deck into my celica and the car has two black wires. One has a red stripe on it and one doesn't which one is the ground.

Also there is several white wires and i don't know which one is for my right rear speaker.
Everything else is all hooked up and that is all i'm missing a black for my positive left rear speaker and a white for my negative right rear speaker. Any help you can give would be awsome.

Without seeing a wiring diagram for your car, it would make sense that the PLAIN BLACK wire would be your ground wire, and the BLACK + RED wire would be the positive for your rear speaker.

Edit: What year is your car? I'm sure the wiring can be pulled up online.

It is a 91. i looked on installdr and it helped alot but not everything. And the black and red wire wasn't used with the deck that was installed from the previous owner... and that was a crappy install wow... so i'm just really confused

Well if the BLACK+RED wire wasn't used for the old deck, then would it not be safe to presume that the PLAIN BLACK wire *IS* your ground wire? Then I would just start touching wires together in combinations until you get your rear speaker to work properly. I've had to do it before when directions weren't clear.

Crimp your connections that you KNOW are right first, and then when you can't figure out that last speaker, it should be quick and easy enough to narrow down the two wires.

Ok that will work but what about the extra wires. I've done installs on several cars and there have almost always been extra wires what are they for? Were they used with the stock radio? The wiring guide i have doesn't even list them. I think they are a pink one a black /w red stripe and one more i think is white. Anything important?

Sounds to me like they were probably used by the old factory deck, sometimes old radios have seperate wires to power the illumination, stuff like that... If you get all 4 speakers working, and the deck turns on and off properly, what else do you need? Tape up the excess wires in a coil and forget about it.

black(+)and yellow(-)are left rear, red(+) and white(-)is left rear, grey is accessory and blue with a yellow stripe is 12 volt hot, and brown is ground.

pink(+) and purple(-) is left front and light green(+) and blue (-) is right front.

the black with a red stripe and the pink with the blue stripe can be tied together for the power antenna .

hope this helps, not bad for that all being from memory.

that should be the same for most celicas and supras.unless its really old.

when in doubt: pop your trunk and check the color of the factory wiring running to your back speaker (s) ... they will almost always be the same color as two of the colors that were going into your factory deck. use that as a guide for your (+) / (-) for the back speakers, and if you have the rest of the wires hooked up you're set.

also, next time you're at a junk yard rip the stock clip off a celica, and next time you can just buy the damn wiring harness from canadian tire. makes life 100 times easier

Solid advice. You can also check the factory EWD book.
