My 00 civic did this.. Have you ever tried to remove it? Jostling it can mess it up, also if you plug/unplug the plugs too many times you can scrape the thin copper strip away so it has little contact (jumpy speedometer)

hey guys i got my speed sensor replaced and after about 20 km my check engine light came on and instead of the speedometer needle not doing anything it was going all over the place from 20km to 60km then up and down. i also noticed that my check engine light seems to dims constantly, whats the problem here? :dunno:

When my beater grandam had its alternator going the speedometer would go wacky. When I pressed the brakes it would shoot up and shit.

First thing that came to mind was floating ground ,you got a stereo system in that car of yours?
Hows the deck is it after market and is there a mess of wires behind it, could any be pinched and shorting out on the dash board bracing?
When it dim's does it flicker randomly or is this a constant pulse like a turn signal or is really rapid and gets faster as you hit the gas?

This may seem a little technical but its wires and if you follow them they will lead you to the problem, a volt meter with continuity test function and Ohm's will help.
Disconnect the VSS, your engine light will come on and see if it still flickers.
Check the wires to it and follow them around to the harrness, I think thu the problem lye's in the dash and your gonna need to crawl around alot.
Well anyway C if any of this info will help you out. ;)
