So I got a guy who is gonna sell me a "hot stereo package." I am going to include the specifics and prices for viewing. I'm relativly new to the car audio world and don't know whats fair.
Hello Drew;
Here is few options for a good price.
DPX 501 $550.00
or
DPX 701 $700.00
Octane R 6.5 inch speaker Set $90.00
Wire Kit Adapter $15.99
Amp Install Kit $99.99
Octane R R10 $90.00
Orion 2002 Amp $259.99
Box $99.99
Monster Cable RCA $29.99
I went with the DPX701
Is that a good deal guys? |

By saying "hot" if you mean stolen, I wouldn't be posting that on this forum.

Lol No I dont mean hot as in stolen -.- I mean hot as in awesome. Top of the line. Great sound quality. I can change the wording if thats better for you but I'm buying from a licensed dealer. I doubt they would be stolen parts.

No offence, but most of that stuff is really low end and those prices are marked about 50-60% over invoice.
Just check Ebay for audio stuff, that deck is like $275 + $35 USD for shipping everywhere on Ebay whereas your guy wants $700 CDN.
That Phoenix Gold R10 is a super cheap sub, its like $40 USD on there and the Orion amp is worth $140 USD.
If I were you I'd buy it all off of Ebay except for the box, you could either spend way less money overall or take the $1000+ you were going to spend and get a way better system. I've bought tons of audio equipment off there and have never had a problem with any of it. |

You are totally right! [Why Didnt I think Of Ebay]
I got in touch with the guy to pull out unless he's willing to negotiate down.
Thanks for the warning!

| yea that stuff really isnt at that good of a price at all. you can go to a bunch of stores and get the same stuff for cheaper than that. and you can get way better stuff for around the same price. |

So I have officially pulled out of the deal... told him I couldn't afford the package at this time and I would get back to him on a later date if I was still interested.
Thanks for the save guys.
So If I bought my own parts would it be cheaper just to pay someone to install them? [My electrical knowledge isn't very ...vast :P |

Yeah I would have to, thats not much of a deal.
I would call around and ask what the stereo shops charge for an install if you absolutely don't want to try it.
It's really not that hard to do though, I was 16 when I put my first stereo in and had no experience with it before. There's lots of How-to's on the internet if you need guidance too, thats what I used. |

I'll Be in Edmonton this weekend to Register the Car and hopefully drive her home once the OOP is done. I'll have to stop at some car audio shops around the city. needless to say Fort Mac isn't the best place for that sorta thing.

haha well done shawley lol.
and yea JL audio stuff is amazing but expensive. if u dont want to spend a fortune you can go with JBL or infinity. given it isnt quite as top of the line but its way cheaper and still sounds really good in my opinion. |

I'm going to look into all your suggestions while I am in eddytown. Thanks for being so helpful guys! I was just reading the first 40 some odd pages of Ricers! O.O
For awhile I thought my car was a little bit ricer...I was actually really worried about it. I personally think that any modification made to the car can be considered ricer depending on the reason for modification. Its one thing to pay a guy with a passion for cars to bolt on a carbon fibre hood and call yourself an enthusiast, then it is to watch and help and learn with the guy...so next ime you can do it yourself. I might not know alot about my car now...but I want to be there every step of the way as it changes. How can anyone call themselves an enthusiast when they dont understand their own cars...
Those guys are just car whores :P
Shawney I will stop by...and I do wanna check out the place with the really expensive stuff. I live in Fort Mac, since when has money been a problem for someone who lives here lol.
I do plan to drive it up here...but I work all the time so She will see very light use..and I plan to move to EDM Calg or Vanc sometime this year.

LOL you mean OVERPRICED top of the line stuff.
Gauranteed you can find higher quality gear for cheaper on anything.
Amps? PG's Xenon lineup is great.
Components? Yeesh, CDT is a bargain considering they use Vifa drivers
Subs? Depends, but off the top of my head, something from ID or eD would be way cheaper for similar performance. |

I'm pretty sure I saw your car when I stopped by on Thursday last week.
Doesn't it already have a bunch of aftermarket stereo stuff in there? Granted the install isn't too pretty, but still.
grats on the Soarer by the way, great cars :) |
