Engine swap help.... - Click HERE for Original Thread

Stan
Ok. i have a 98 dodge avenger and blew the timeing belt screwing up some internals and instead of paying the 2 and a half grand to get some now internals and a rebuild i figure i might as well go all out and get a swap done. So my concern was first off where is a good truthful shop in edmonton that would do a kind of quick clean swap for me with no bullshit, and second i was wondering what engine should i get?? (stock i had the 420a in it with manual tranny if it changes anything)

Thanks:thumbup:

stratus 2.4 with srt-4 internals and turbo

The eclipse 3.0 litre should fit I believe..

You have a 2.5 in there now I think! I have no idea how common they are. I'd try finding an egnien online then calling shops to get it installed! Also, the easiest swap would be the same engine in there now.. Then you dont have to faff around with conversion harnessses and transmission B.S!

Also.. Some eagle engines work as well!! A dsm engine in that even with the stock turbo would be quick! A 3.0 eclipse motor would be cool though!

ya... currently im thinking of the JDM 6G72. but im going to call around and get some prices and whatnot. see how far that goes.

when you say 420a do you mean 2.0L dohc?? because thats what it means... and that would make sense...

but don't waste your time with other swaps they wont work... and if they do i sure as hell wouldn't want to pay anyone for that kind of trouble... unless you feel like investing 20k into a 98 avenger:dunno:

2.4 will dolt to your current trans as well. i'm not sure if the avenger got the nvt 350. but if it did get the nvt 350 you can put an srt-4 motor through it no problem

a NA 2.4 from a stratus won't require a harness swap and can be run with your current computer and 24lb/hr injectors

a na 2.4 would be the easiest different swap
then a 2.4 turbo would be second only because you need a stand alone or equivalent controlls...

and only 2.4's pre 2003 will work with your computer.. just a heads up..

Avenger 420a does not equal neon engine

They aren't the same thing. Different head, intake and exhaust on opposite sides. Similar nonetheless. Harness modification and beyond will be required- it's not a straight up swap like it is to the neon. The Avenger was a whole lot more 'dsm' than neons.

i wonder if you could still put in the 2.4... the only real barrier that i could see is the crank trigger...:dunno: and i'm not sure that's an issue

looked it up it works fine... you just have to have a custom down pipe/ header  no big deal at all

edit: you can do your swap (3.0 or jdm crap) but i hear it's more than anyone is willing to do:dunno: and it doesn't have the after market
