supercharging a cavalier - Click HERE for Original Thread

ive got a 99 cavalier Z24 with the 2.4 twin cam and 5 speed in it. i had a guy tell me that i can bolt up a gtp supercharger from a grand prix and all i need is a kit to make it fit. no intercooler? has anyone done one of these yet? where are all the cavalier guys.

if money isnt a problem, anything is possible.

i don't think you can, the gran prix gtp has a engine mounted supercharger i believe, like its the intake manifold, whereas, as far as i know, the cavalier supercharger is a bracket mounted supercharger

and the gtp is a v6 so it won't mount on an inline 4 head

this guy says his blower bolts up to the intake manifold i would assume it is the same setup as the gmpp supersharger kit. is that what the gtp kit looks like too?

87fc3sturbo
he said he could get me the blower for 600 bucks and then the kit would be cheap

crazy240sx
well as far as i understand, the supercharger is shaped like a V sits in the valley's of the heads, whereas your head is just flat so i don't see how it would mount up, but i could be wrong

i tried to tell this guy that but he insisted he did it to his cav and is pushin 275hp i said ill believe it when i see it. im terested in a bargain boneyard boost project.

275HP ON A 4 BANGER S/C CAVALIER:beer: YA uh ok.

Well anything is possible but that seems like the truth is getting stretched a bit. Find out more on this, cause it don't seem right.

The supercharger definitely won't be a direct bolt on to the engine in the Cavalier. They are completely different.

You can buy the GM kit like I had on my old 02 Cavalier, but they only work on the 2000 and up J-body's. You would need to change the starter to one off the 2000+ models, you need to block off the egr and the injectors that come with the kit won't work so you would need to update those and finally the reflash that comes with the gm kit only works on 00+ cars so you would need some other type of fuel management system to compensate for the boost.

And the gm kit replaces the intake manifold and it bolts directly to the head. There is absolutely no room in the engine compartment for any roots style charger with the stock intake in place. And the gtp charger is larger that the one gm sells for the Cavalier so you would definitely have to fab something.

I'm sure it can be done, but it definitely won't be easy.

far too much work for a daily driver. i tried to tell this guy the differences but i would like to see his car. 600 dollar blower is too good to be true

Id say buddy is trying to screw you and thats it. Ask him if he would sell the GTP motor, tranny and s/c for the 600$ ;).

ya ive seen cavs with 3800 supercharged motors in them before. im not trying to make a fast cav because they just blow up but i thought if it was that cheap and easy.
