parts to swap an LS1 into an fc - Click HERE for Original Thread

b18eg
Thinking about swapping an LS1 into an fc and just wondering what i will need to do so

thanks

Invalid Zero
You'll need an LS1 and an FC. Probably a couple more things also.

b18eg
lol ya i figured that i meant like wiring, if the fc's drive shaft and axles will work that kind of stuff

Mobius
The first thing you need is some serious research, but count on a lot of time and money, even more money if you don't have the skills to fabricate the required parts yourself.

Just go out and buy a slomaro and be done with it. It will probably cost you the same in the end. You will have the engine, drivetrain and wiring already done for you. The only thing is you drive a chevy at the end of the day.

Custom motor mounts, axels and shift linkage would be a small start.

Seen it done with a 5.0 before, what a way to bastardize your mazda

Wookey
www.hinsonsupercars.com is your friend. all the stuff you need you can get here.

As good or better weight distribution than the rotary, a motor that doesn't sound like a dying yugo when you get on it, reliability, and being able to make 500 RWHP comfortably without blowing apex seals apart. Just to name a few.

my question is why the LS1 when you can throw in the LS2? 50 hp is a nice added thing to have. But then again, if you have the cash, an LS7 would be very, very :) nice :)

I have heard that people are having problems with their kits falling apart from certain vendors that offer these motor swap kits. I would do a lot of home work before you buy anything.

i would also suggest going to an ls2 it is quite a bit lighter and way stronger. if it can make my suv go like snot i can't even imagine what it would do with 2000 lbs less!!!

I dont think he really needs to worry about speed that much. A BONE STOCK LS1 in an FC will run 11.9-12.5 in the 1/4 mile with a good driver.

man, everyone is putting WAY too much thought into this...

If someone is acctually serious about the kind of work that's involved in a swap like this... it is not this guy.

Cause if you had any idea what was acctually involved, 780 tuners "Performance, Show and Sound Tech" forum would be the LAST place you post asking what parts you need.

Or because i happen to know the guy and i posted the site he needs to go to. Not everyone on this forum is dumb and people have done their research on certain things.

Because the LS2's are still very expensive. Only put into newer Corvettes here. You can find LS1's all the way back to 1997 Corvettes and 1998 F-Bodies.

Supra_devil
from what i found, its cheaper to buy and ship an ls1 or ls2 from the states than pay the rediculous prices most places ask for them here.
ls2 is in more than just the vette's here too. though i admit, still not common or cheap for a pullout.

2005-2006 Chevrolet SSR
2006-2007 Chevrolet TrailBlazer SS
2006-2007 Cadillac CTS-V

The only common thing they have been put into is the Corvettes. Sound better? I'd bet money that there are 5 or 6 C6's on the road for every 1 SSR, CTS-V, and Trailblazer SS combined.

LeadSled
You'd lose your money, they made almost half as many GTO's in 05 and 06 as they did C6's. Plus 10k TBSS's per year starting in 06 and 12k SSRs from 05-06. Not sure how many CTS-V's but I'm sure they put out 4 or 5k a year.

My cousin bought a complete LS2 powertain for his 69 C-10 Chev truck, it was out of a TBSS and he paid $6500 CDN including shipping. They go for like $1000-1500 less than the LS1s on Ebay, I wouldn't say the extra power is worth that much but they aren't overly expensive.
