help, which muffler? - Click HERE for Original Thread

skarolla
hi guys, well it looks like my muffler is toast and i need to pick up a new one, let me know what you guys think is the better choice cause there are soooo many manufacturers

setup:

1993 Acura Integra GSR Vtec 1.7 L
AEM Cold air intake
68mm Skunk 2 Throttle Body
Skunk 2 Pro Series Intake Manifold
DC Stainless Steel Header
Catback Exhaust (looks like 2.5in?)

Currently has a Magna Flow muffler on it that needs replacing

I like the way it sounds now, it's a little tinny since the muffler is toast, but i don't want some obnoxious super loud muffler that's gonna set off car alarms and just generally make me look like a tool

i want high performance, but with reasonable sound and looks (i don't like the big 8 inch soup can mufflers either)

any suggestions?

flatboy
Suppertrapp. but I don't think anybody sells them anymore up here, you gota go to Summitracing.com

skarolla
hmmm, all they list is a Flowmaster...

Driven
RS*R Exmag.

IMO Magna Flow is still the best way to go but cherry bomb makes some awesome sounding mufflers too. and SHOULD have one that would fit your application im not 100% for sure though but they sound really good if u get the right one.

Cherry Bomb does not make any awesome sounding mufflers:blink: Their mostly quite tinny and definately loud and obnoxious.

Britain
if it's time to replace JUST the muffler, get a twin loop.

Mugen developed the twin loop and they sound amazing. They were made for our little raspy hondas.. they sound very nice...

I'd get a twin loop muffler. Also, the opening isnt gaping so yuo wont get a ticket.. OBX makes knockoff ones.

If you dont like the twin loop, buy a greddy evo2 muffler.. they sound amazing!

calm down there, i think they sound really good cuz i had one on my 68 olds F-85 that i had last summer. if u dont think they sound good well thats fine but gear down there and listen to more than one b4 u make the asumption that they are all loud and obnoxious.

Britain
P.S I have a stock axleback for sale for 30 bux.. If you want a stock muffler!

if not, get the twin loop or evo2.. amazing sounding!

This is 780TUNERS.. Not 780 Muscle car forum... Hence why we jump the guns on: Saying they sound like shit..

I use Cherry Bottles for resinators.. Not Mufflers... It takes MORE than a Cherry bottle to quiet our Imports down..

I agree they sound good on V8's... but not I4's..

Go with what 'Britian' Said.. Twin Loop Mufflers are very nice..

That'll be my next choice once this one takes a poop. :p

apexi ws its not loud at all

yea i get this isnt "780 muscle car" but if someone asks for othes opinions the people who responde are saying IMO and k my 68 olds was a bad example i guess, but a guy down the street from me has an MX-6 with the KL-DE (not saying its an amazing car) but he has the cherry bomb glasspack exhaust on it and IN MY OPINION It sounds pretty good. So either way this is IN MY OPINION so say whatever u want.

David
Tanabe Hyper Medallion... performs well and sounds great too..

Don't Magnaflows have a crazy warranty? Get it replaced under warranty if you really liked it.

I always wondered about those "Twin Loop" mufflers. That's creating alot of unecessary backpressure is it not?:dunno:

I wouldn't say that 780 Tuners is solely an import based community, I'd say if you're into modding, it's the place to be, 4 bangers, V6's, V8's alike.

That said, the cherry bomb style mufflers always sound good to decent on anything other than a 4 cylinder. Alot of the fart cans running out there are designed even worse than cherry bombs, hence the poor sound because of it's inability to control the sound.

It's my opinion that the socalled "twin loop" Mugen mufflers are just a redesign of the Dynomax super turbo muffler:

In which you are forcing the exhaust gasses to make two distinct changes of direction. The only diffeference being, Mugen closed off the "bends" from the super turbo design and would probably flow a bit better than the Dynomax. It's because of these direction changes you will get more control over the sound and volume.

DC Makes a variation on the "twin loop" as well putting two resonator style mufflers in a loop:

the muffler was on the car when i bought it, so i don't think i'd be able to get warranty (no paperwork)

skarolla
yeah, i'm not so sure about those twin loops, isn't the whole idea to get the air out as quickly as possible?

Eyep, but at what price?.

The problem you face here is more flow=more noise.

true, true, more flow equals more noise and more money....

maybe i should just look at getting another magnaflow, they're the best in that noise/price range?

i'd say my max price would be around $200, but would love to pay like half that.

Here is what I plan to run on my car,
http://www.moroso.com/catalog/categ...p?CatCode=35001

They are cheap. I will be running one, two or three, depending on how quiet I want it to be.

Blaine B.
You might want to check out Borla, Bassanni and I heard Brullen was back in business a while ago. I actually talked to a human on the phone that was going to send out a catalogue to me. Brullen sounds wicked on anything.

If you want to post please make it relavent to the situation at hand. Saying they sound wonderful on an 8cylinder car really doesn't help anyone out.

I'm gonna have to disagree with one thing there Blaine.

I have/had a borla pro xs muffler on my mx6 (no res) and it was nice at idle but noisey and tinny most of the time. I try to use it again on a 4cylinder with a res and it sounds the exact same...I was quite dissapointed. Again its was only the pro xs model (2.5i/2.5o)

That looks good.. That might be my next shot aswell! :p

fredster102
i had a magnaflow on my old prelude, sounded deep when it idled but once it hit 6000 it screamed, backfires were so loud lol

I had the worst luck trying to get a Bassanni, I really wanted to see what they could do but for me, I had no luck.

Brullen is back? wow. These things were built like tanks and sound awesome, but they are quite loud.

Never experienced a borla before.

skarolla
so i think i settled on this Apexi WS Universal

http://www.apexi-usa.com/product_ex...7&pageNum=1

looks like a good balance between sound and performance. Anyone have any experience with this muffler or Apexi in general? It's $285 so i'd like to know if it's worth it as that's a lot of scrilla to drop on a muffler

How would this compare to another Magnaflow as they have a lifetime warranty and are fairly cheap.

Fazda
magnaflow is the way to go!

I miss my brullen muffler, who carrys them? i want one again, agreed the best sounding mufflers out there.

Eclipser
Dunno if thermal R&D make one for integras, but check them out.

skarolla
i don't actually need an integra specific muffler. i have a 2-3/8 inch custom exhaust (no catalytic converter)

it can be a universal muffler 2-3/8 inch inlet offset to the left for N/A application
