I've been a Don Imus fan for ages. Recently he made a comment about the Rutgers Women's basketball team being "tough nappy-haired hos."
Is it rude and offensive? I'll say yes. In context, which was a West Side Story type reference, it's still offensive. It is not intentionally hateful and racist, aside from those who want it to be.
What bothers me as a person is that anytime a white person says anything about any black person, it's incredibly offensive and demeaning. A black person does the inverse action, and it is okay.
I'm not racist. I truly do believe in equal rights, but my equal rights stem from actions and capabilities, not color, gender or anything else.
Where is the outrage when Al Sharpton (who is outspoken about this issue) calls Jews derogatory names. Where is the concern and boycott action when a rap album is released with lyrics that demean black women worse than a phrase like "nappy-haired hoes".
I didn't care about this issue until I heard them report in on CHED, and then didn't report on everything that was involved. Most likely because they were scared of the media backlash. If there was one equal opportunity outlet, you would hope it was the news... |

Imus is a lame ass old man and one of the least funny talk show hosts I've ever heard. Where can you even listen to his show, I didn't think anyone plays him up here?
I really don't give a shit about the media circus stuff, but if it makes any difference Stern used to work in the same studio and they talked about how Imus would use the same deraugatory comments to any black person in the building. He sounds through and through like a racist and probably deserves whatever he gets.
Either way the only radio worth listening to is satellite, and the two Sirius Stern channels have the most interesting and entertaining content of anything out there. The best part is that they aren't censored by any government bullshit which makes the biggest difference. |
