Why do people not like discussing how much they paid for something? Is it rude to ask? - Click HERE for Original Thread

REFLUX
I've never really understood why people don't wish to tell others how much they paid for something, especially their cars & house.

And there have been many situations where others ask if I mind telling them how much something cost.

Is it rude to ask how much someone paid for something?
And when asked, many people wish not to share that information, is price-paid a sensitive issue???

:dunno:

i see it almost the same way, but i know people ask sometimes to judge you, and just want to know everything, which just makes it rude

I depends. I'll share any info with friends, but not so much with strangers.

I think it's a matter of.. Justifying what they might be spending later on for SOME people..

For instance.. Your friend buys a new car.. and you were looking at the same car.. you'd ask.. Then you kinda have a set price to go by, right? Mainly so you don't get ripped off.

Some people just want to know,.. because they want to know if you're making more money than they are or some stupid shit like that...

Yea i don't mind telling my friends and most people what i paid for something.. but it's usually for comparison of what someone else paid.. or they might ask.. where did u get it.. how much was shipping.. etc..

Dunno, I like to ask people what they paid for houses, how much they had to put down as a DP and stuff like that, same with vehicles, to know that if i want a similar vehicle/house, i know what i have to work towards. Someone asks me, i'll tell them, got no problems with it.

Like someone mentioned most people ask to judge you, or see relatively how well off you are.

I hate disclosing how much I buy stuff for and how much I make...

Werd. People like to size people up, especially here in Edmonton now...it's all about money. The more you got, the more respect you get.

To bad, this isn't really accurate in this day and age, when anyone can afford a nice house now adays with a 40yr mortgage. And it's easy to pull any equity out of your house, or obtain loans to get nice toys. It seems to me nowadays the people with money are the ones you least expect, because they are able to save their money instead of aving to spend it to show off.

What he said.

I'm pretty straight forward when it comes to discussing the dollar value of things, but if I don't want to talk about it, the asking person should get a clue and stop.

As everyone else has already said, it really depends who is asking and why they are asking. If someone is just genuinely curious or has a reason to ask I don't mind.:dunno:
