Hey,
I recently purchased a FD RX7 from Japan and it feels like it is lacking power when you accelerate.
Also when you start the car up it seems like it struggles a bit but it eventually starts. The rpm's shoot up all the way up to 7000 and eventually drop an idle at about 1500-2000.
Also their is black smoke comming from the exhaust when the car is on.
Does this sound like the engine needs a rebuild?

| You may have a multitude of problems. Check the compression for each rotor. Is the smoke black or bluish? |

Smoke seems to be black comming out of the exhaust, but when it goes into the air, it seems as it could be blue.
Also If left on for a while, the exhaust seems to get really really redish on the inside, and if you gas the the car it will shoot pretty big flames out of it. |

Your car is running too rich. It sounds like you have a multitude of problems there. If the car is struggling to accelerate and your exhaust is red hot it might mean that the factory downpipe is plugged (it has 2 cats). The only aftermarket downpipe that will fit is the HKS one due to your car being rhd. It sounds like you got one hell of a deal on your fd.

hey thanks guys,
I did a search on a good shop for these cars and abbey road automotive seem like they know what they are doing? anyone have bad experience with them?
I am new to these cars and would not like to get raped on something i dont need.
I payed a little more then what most Fd's are comming in for from Japan as I was under the impression I was getting a car with no problems other then what I was told. But i guess something happened with it not being treated properly being transported here.
I guess with me even having to pay more to fix it in the end you can say I got a good deal compared to what i would have spent on a local FD ( yes I understand and respect that the local ones are worth more with good reason).
Is yours the one in the sig? If so looks very sexy. |

Yes thats mine. Single turbo that puts down 402rwhp at 14-15psi of boost.
