and the last time we did get fucked on the north end wasn't out fault there were some idiots doing stupid shit ath wern't with us, then the cops were there looking for them, and found us, and nearly took out our cars for what? some exhaust and tint tickets? and for them to impound my car for no reason and charge me $150 then give me a check a year later for my money back, like just dumb

The last time we were pulled over on 97st after going on a cruise from the Canadian Tire parking lot, Wookey and myself inquired upon one of the officers as to the reason we were being targetted. The reply we recieved from the officer was, "If you guys are cruising around 97st with more than a couple cars, we WILL pull you over and harass you."
Thats exactly the reason why we don't go down there anymore. And given the amount of cars used in dangerous maneuvers to pull us over the first time, I want to avoid that type of situation altogether.
We are NOT going to be using the CT Parking lot on 97st but I am considering using Northside Common or other similar alternatives.
I think we're also going to have to consider not cruising as a massive group in order to keep the idiocy down.
BUT,
I'm not going to be around this weekend, so if you guys want to risk it, go right ahead. I'm giving you fair enough warning.
Either way, when I return from holidays, I will be considering an array of ideas in order to make the cruises more enjoyable for everyone but I think its time to get drastic as the amount of people attending the cruises has increased substantially over the past few years and the cruises have never been based around 50-60 cars but instead around 10-15 cars. |

You can do whatever you want to do. But in the whole scheme of things, if you say, "Lets go to CT on Northside." and I say, "Lets go to Leduc", we're probably going to Leduc.
I'm not trying to slight you in the least. I've been there, done that, been around the block one too many times.
I do the things I do because it keeps us out of trouble.
Why would we risk a situation as dangerous and inconvenient as the previous just because a single person thinks its a good idea and ISN'T listening.
There is no standard procedure. I've talked to almost every cop that has harrassed us over tint/exhaust and kicked us out of locations, but the cops that pulled us over on 97st were very blunt in reaffirming a single point. IF WE COME BACK, WE WILL BE TARGETTED. |

I just went back through 3 pages of posts, and I saw 19 or 20 people say they were "in" and did not voice any concerns over the route I posted.
Over those same 3 pages, I saw only 2 or 3 people voicing concerns, and while they may be very valid concerns... And your intentions are probably some of the best;
I don't think a single incident should scare us away from a major part of the city. I'm sad that you're on vacation and won't be cruising with us... Perhaps if we decide to cuise 97ST, and everything occurs without incident, perhaps you'd be willing to change your mind?

You can't speak for every cop on the force, I'm sure that some of them know what kind of vehicles come with what type of exhaust, and I think you're rash generalization might be part of the problem. We will be harassed no matter where we go, and I think that considering the people making the biggest stink aren't even showing up this week, that we should just wait and see what happens.

the night we left 97th st ctire no one broke the law, we saw alota cops on the way up so we didn't do stupid shit there or on the way out, we were even going under he speed limit, there was like like 25 or so of us. and they saw us sitting in the parking lot and aperantly were thretened by us sitting there so they got their cars ready for us after we had done nothing, i belive i was just showing some buddies my new car and things like that, just having a good evening. |

i remember that, charles was driving his firebird v6 stock one way harder than most of us and he was let thru, and so was ryan (chargerguy) when he was driving his works ford ranger that is loud as shit with straight pipe exhaust, nad yea some asian family in a civic with minior rice things were pulled over and harrassed,
also charles another time was driving his dads dodge ram 1500 hemi like yours with minor mods, going about 80 to 90 in a 50 zone with a cop right behind him, and this was on a cruise down calgary trail, and he was going faster than anyone else, and you know who was pulled over, a crx that had some white decals on the side and a loud exhaust and he was going the speed limit and charles was passing him, the crx was given and exhaust ticket, for $115, when charles could of got a $200+ ticket |

I dont know if many of you remember, but we used to host meets at Wendy's on 97th and 137ave. I don't recall ever getting harassed or discriminated against for anything at all.
So a couple guys had a bad experience 1 night and assume that it is the worst place for a meet, cause the cops on the other side of the north Saskatchewan operate with totally different operating procedures.:p cmon people.. listen to yourselves.
I have owned 2 cars that have been fairly flashy... had tint, large exhausts, pounding stereo's, STREETGLOW lol on one, and have never to date had a ticket for anything other than speeding...
I drive down 97th street min 2 times a day, for the last uhmmmm 8 years?
BUT ANYWAYS, North , south, east , west.... What I think.. and what I have been saying is that we should END UP somewhere central in the city. Of coarse finding a place that will accommodate all of us is the tricky part. Since most downtown places are full at that hour on friday/sat nights.
No one wants to drive an hour to get home by themselves at 330am.
I think what we need to do, is keep showing up at UC at 9pm.... We've been doing it for years, and have an agreement with the owners on letting us use the parking lot.
We should randomly choose locations across the city as "mid cruise" stop in's to gather. We should decide this AT UC. ( a couple northside locations could be the Cineplexodeon, Northgate Mall , Kingsway mall, Nait, CT, And there is a like 100 good parking lots on 137th west of 97th street... best buy, second cup, etc.)
If we keep taking the same routes IE Henday, whitemud at the same time, and the same nights... we are likely going to start getting speed traps, check stops etc. We do need to change it up.
The final destination has always been the issue... so if anyone has ideas that are central, I think this would be our best option.

^ Best idea ive heard so far. as long as we meet at UC then we can decide from there... i know ive never been to a meeting yet and firday will be my first one but diffrent locations every time is not only cooler cause u can see difffrent roads/ parts of the city every week... it seems smarter aswell. Cops/heated trouble makers who show up only for the cruise wontknow were the cruise is unlesss they attended the UC meet.

I'm just going to jump in here and suggest. I've memorized roads and lanes and I know where all the shitty ones are.
Start at UC, go to North Common. St. Albert trail where it crosses Yellowhead is in very poor condition, so we stop for a smoke at Odyssyum, and take 156 to NC cuz it's brand spanking new. 156 also takes you to St. Albert where there's that covered parking lot out of view of the street. Then we go on a nice long cruise to Sherwood Park Timmy's, but not via Yellowhead cuz it sucks ass and is usually busy. Then a nice cruise from Sherwood to downtown is via 98th ave, and it will be later in the evening so it being 2 lanes with construction won't be an issue. Everyone likes BP's after a long cruise, and it's central.

I for one have not been cruising with these guys for a long time BUT have drivin respecfuly infront or behind them. I'm with 95integra with limit the cruises also i'm with wookey all those stops are gettin annoying nothing like driving for 15 mins letting the car cool for 2 - 5 mintues and then going again and then again. Gas up before the meet and drive till your dry.

If anyone else is up for a "pre-meet" I'll likely be heading to the A&W/(Lance's Second Cup) on Fridays around 7 or 7:30. There are often over 100 classics and muscle there and I don't think it would be a bad thing to throw in a bit of a sport-compact contingent. Just don't so stupid shit there because many of these guys have over $100k into their cars. Spray some rocks at their paint and your wallet will regret it for years to come.
About 7 or 8 years back the Friday nights at Soda Jerks in St. Albert had a bit of everything and there were a few hundred cars packing the lots and streets on all sides. Let's do that again at A&W here. Plus a forum member owns the coffee shop right there, so we know where our caffeine purchases are going.:thumbup: |

Just for the record, I wasn't trying to FORCE anyone to follow me, I was trying to be funny with the whole "I'm bigger than you" thing...
I thought it was a good idea (meeting at Crappy tire), a few people agreed with me, so I made a new thread. I'm perfectly fine with the cruise destinations changing, but what I'm not okay with, is people acting like fucking crybaby's.
People think I'm being arrogant and "not listening to advice" but I don't think the advice is well-founded enough for me to bother.
As Aaron and I have both said, (and everyone else who lives on the northside) the cops are no worse on 97st than anywhere else in the city.
As far as the cruise locations go, let's decide at UC, I love having the initial meeting at UC.
I think "keeping the heat off" is probably a pretty good idea, it wouldn't be a problem except there are certain individuals in our group who CONSTANTLY do stupid shit.
I have no problem with burnouts or weaving in and out of traffic or speeding. Just don't fucking do it with pedestrians or "regulars" around.
If everyone wants to cruise 150 down henday, that's fucking fine, specially at 3am when there's nobody else around. But don't do stupid shit right in the middle of downtown at 10pm etc. |

Arabian_Ryda and myself cruise with our friends on 97st and the northside all the time, we NEVER get hassled.
And if you seen his Datsun, it is LOUD. My car is heatbag, and never have we had a problem.
It doesn't matter if you are on 97st and 163 ave or on 43rd Ave and 22 st, if you are doing stupid shit, you will get what is coming to you.

^^^^ Im with you and aaron and anyone else who says the northside is no different a place then the south to cruise. I live on the north side, and same thing I drive down 97th at least once a day, and I have never ever once had an issue, here or anywhere else on the northside.
Truthfully I have been harrased more on the southside then the north, but it would never deter me from driving on the southside.
Of course these cruises are bigger then a couple of my buddies going out(and sometimes doing stupid shit), but I think the principle holds the same. If you gonna do stuff to get pulled over it dont matter the side of the city or number of the group. You will get pulled over.
I know I havent been on an actual uc cruise yet so my opinion doesnt matter much, but I have been in large groups on the north and south side and it will only be the company with you that would give us a problem.

Something I always do on cruises is leave space in front of myself for others top hop in, if there's lots of traffic. Once on Henday I let 10 cars ahead of me so we could all go, instead of be stuck behind a semi. I fucking hate it when people cut me off. Like we're all cruising together and we all have to turn right, but everyone goes zooming beside me so I have to cut across two lanes of traffic at an intersection. Newsflash I have the best radar detector so I should be in front anyway, lol
Everyone should be courteous to people we're cruising with and just get 3M. Fairladys and Skylines kick up the most gravel, so if you don't like rock chips, just don't cruise behind them. |
