| a gear ratio is just the ratio of the number of turns two meshing gears make... for example a gear ratio of 8:1 means that one gear turns 8 times for every 1 turn of the other meshing gear.<p>hope that answers your question... not sure if that's what you're really asking about. |

| masterv: Depends on the track and the engine power band. Lots of varitions. Ex. In a small tight track you might wanna concider a close gear ratio. |

| yup... power band is important... and so is weight. and if you're a class racer you may be limited to certain tire sizes as well. there are lots and lots of variables.<p>cya |

| i think what darkman meant is that you might want a "set" of close gear ratios (for your transmission) if you road race on a small tight track. |
